I do not consider the absence of a date function to be a shortcoming of the new SM300.
As you know, the new SM300's design closely resembles the original Seamaster 300 that debuted in 1957, which has no date window. If you view the 1957 SM300 and the new one side by side, you'll be surprised at how strikingly similar they look. In fact, the SM300 remained without a date until the mid 1960s when the case measured a whooping 42 mm in diameter (a huge watch back then and still a healthy size to wear nowadays).
The no date feature also gives the dial a more balanced, uncluttered look. The original one even had a version with the "lollipop" second hand which the 007 Spectre edition has copied.

You are the man, yes, they look 98% alike. and the older one may have a higher price than the new one we can buy now.
and I am afraid the 1957 one is very pricey at all.
Well, I like that as I was borne with the same year as the Seamaster 300.

Hi Snob,
An early SM300 with "broad arrow" hour hand, reference CK2913 is probably $6000 to $7000 USD. Expensive? Yes, but I bet it still doesn't come close to a similarly vintage Rolex Submariner.
While I don't have a Ref.CK2913, I do have a 1968 Ref.166024 ----- 42mm case, date function, "sword" hour hand/"arrow tip" second hand, and "big triangle" tritium dial. That's not quite as costly as a CK2913, but the 166024 certainly is another iconic Seamaster 300.
I just realized that I had promised to send you pictures of my vintage Omega Constellation in my previous posts. Let me try taking some pictures of both my Constellation and my SM300 when I get a chance for you to look at.
