Gordon Gekko is wearing a Cartier Santos Galbee Auto 18 KT gold watch

Wall Street 1987.

A young and impatient stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, by insider trading on information taken through a ruthless and greedy corporate raider who takes the youth under his wing. A nice story for people to learn today.

The corporate raider Gordon Gekko wears Cartier Santos Galbee Automatic watch in 18 KT solid gold.

I like Michael Douglas movie including this and Fatal attraction! Of course I like his father Kurt Douglas in The Spartacus 萬夫莫敵!

This SANTOS watch design is the trend starter for many watch makers to follow by adding real Philipps screws on the bezel and bracelet even today name it...
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak who should be the first one to put screw on bezel and I think this Cartier Santos is the same designer as AP Royal Oak.

I was not able to buy the solid gold version but I bought the stainless version
As we dare not ask about price of a solid gold Cartier by that time
1985 when I worked as a young sales engineer at Jebsen’s & Co. With monthly income of HK$5,500. The stainless steel version was sold to me in Geneve Watch Company at HK$4,500.

Now I had a chance to buy back what I could not afford 30 years ago.

Share with you this great Creation from Cartier.

Note this nasty stuff weighs
143 grams.

It comes with Size 29mmx40mm as the largest by that time.
But that is even heavier than a Rolex Day Date Ref 1803 of a bigger size of watch.

Amazingly it is super comfortable to wear and it looks slim on your wrist!

Elizabeth Taylor and Cleopatra

Elizabeth Taylor, one of the real Stars of the 19th Century, who had a wonderful story line of her life.

She married 8 times with 7 husbands… one of the legendary romantic life not just in the movie. She is pretty and sexy who can play Cleopatra  with more charms than her!?

This is my tribute to her, I drew it when I was in Philippines after works at my hotel.

I think only one watch could match Elizabeth's talent and her beauty, the Rolex Emerald!

From Wikipedia

Cleopatra is a 1963 American epic historical drama film chronicling the struggles of the young Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra VII to resist the imperial ambitions of Rome. It was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and shot in the 70 mm Todd-AO format, with a screenplay adapted by Mankiewicz, Ranald MacDougall and Sidney Buchman from a book by Carlo Maria Franzero. The film stars Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, Roddy McDowall, and Martin Landau.

Cleopatra achieved notoriety during its production for its massive cost overruns and production troubles, which included changes in director and cast, a change of filming locale, sets that had to be constructed twice, lack of a firm shooting script, and personal scandal around its co-stars. It was the most expensive film ever made up to that point and almost bankrupted 20th Century-Fox!

You are a Timex Watch in a Digital World!

Die hard 4 live free or Die (2007)

When someone hacks into the computers at the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division; one of the cops they ask is John McClane who is tasked with bringing a hacker named Farrell to the FBI. But as soon as he gets there someone starts shooting at them… this is the beginning of this terrific movie

Thomas Gabriel described John McClane: “You are a Timex watch in a digital world!”

I really need to take sometimes to understand this, whether Thomas was trying to say John was a stubborn old chap?! Or he is a tough Timex Iron Man who isn't fit enough to live in this digital world?

Anyway that carry a negative tone about John, and I feel that Thomas was vilifying Timex watch.
What do you think!?

PS
By then there was no Apple iPhone, iPhone 2G 4MB or 8MB iPhone was launched in 28 June 2007. Farrell was using Nokia phone, obvious Nokia was still the world No. 1 top seller Hand Phone in the world.

Bill Mark (Liam Neeson) wears a Casio World Time in Non-Stop (2014)

An air marshal Bill Marks springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline owner transfers $150 million into an off-shore account which is in fact under Bill’s name. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. With Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery.

If you are having great excitement flicks after Taken and Taken Two, I am afraid you are same as me, sitting in front of the screen watching this movie., you could not figure out who was the one who started this terrible threat to Bill, unless the last 10 minutes.

Bill (Liam Neeson) wears a Casio World Time
Casio is likely the lost popular watch for American average traveler
This is Casio FIRST EDITION: CASIO WAVE CEPTOR WORLD TIME ALARM CHRONOGRAPH REF. WV-58A price is about US$30 nowadays. I believe this watch was produced in 1990.

On the Other hand well, the co pilot Kyle is wearing a Patek Philippe, A Patek Philippe!? Yes, but it looks odd to me as a Pilot to wear a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar watch on board is very Rare as that is not that Kind of Complicated Watch for the Pilot unless he is really a Watch lover, a rich Watch Lover! Patek Philippe should carry a Slogan:
“ Wear Patek Philippe, Don't Leave home without it”
Do see this watch again, does it really having this watch from the Patek Philippine Catalogue!?  Such a functional watch seem to be embedded on such a simple watch case! It carries a funny Circle on the Minute hand!? What is that!?
The sub-counter shows the four year leap-year indicator, currently pointing to the third-year quadrant. The outer ring shows the date –One hand to indicate two function!? No way!
The hand points to Sunday, but also overlaps the 12. Either it is a second time zone or a day – but not both with one hand.
The 24-hour indicator sub-dial shows 2 pm. It is 12 pm on the dial. Looks strange on the dial and pointer arrangement and I donnot understanding PP alows them to put such a watch on movie. As if this is a Product replacement on Movie, Patek Philippe  would like to put a Real stuff seriously instead of this “ Watch”!
Interesting!

Jason Statham Wears Richard Mille RM011 in "Parker" (2013 Movie)

RM011 In "Parker"
Taken with SS Note III Hand Set on my Cheapo Olevia TV.

A Panerai in Jason's "Transporter"

My eyes are always falling on people’s watch, noticeable on their types, brand…style…even on Movie.

“Parker”, a movie where Jason Statham played as Daniel Parmitt’s who wear a Clearly Iconic Watch  design as a Richard Mille RM011 Felipe Massa. Obviously RM had paid a big lump sum for two Close ups in the entire movie.

Well, Parmitt’s Role as a Texan Rich man buying estate at Miami with help of Leslie (Jennifer Lopez) wearing such a Watch is a good choice… But Always I have a tough man as Jason in his movie… He should wear something like Panarai, Royal Oak Offshore or a Submariner….  Whereas RM011 should work better with Dicaprio Leonardo.

Silicon Nitride, applied on this RM011, is a hard coating material normally used in engine parts, semiconductor bonding equipment common on some surface that is requiring a smooth surface finishing a tough hard layer to withstand wearing, and a black coating to act as good background again the Lighter colour of lead frame material, such that Auto PRS (pattern Recognition System ) could take snap shot of the profile of the lead frame, that is a prerequisite requirement for the bonder to place the Silicon Chip right on the Bonding pad.

It is not an expensive process itself, but a stable process is required to maintain the evenness of the coating and colour. So the entire cost become High!

Back to the RM011 watch, 18 – carat gold, titanium details, flyback chronograph with 60-minute countdown timer, 55 hours of power reserve, Price US$119,000. Stock Available.
