The most desirable luxury sport watch

A Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref 5711/1A is the world’s most desirable steel luxury sports watch. The wait time from authorized retailers in the Geneve Switzerland is 7 years and Hong Kong I know not, but I think there is possibility that your son may get one under your name in the waiting list.
Price
Current Hong Kong SRP of Patek Ref 5711/1A -010 is HK$229,300 and 5711/1R-001 is HK$398,900.
In the Market, recommended retail in the HK of a Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref 5711/1A with navy blue dial is HK$525,000. That is two times the price of SRP!
A Brief History
Celebrated watch designer Gérald Genta would be the man to design that era-defining watch, the Royal Oak Jumbo Ref 5042ST. Putting it all on the line, Audemars Piguet unveiled its steel watch at the 1972 Baselworld fair. In the process it created an entire new category; the steel luxury sports watch.
Several years later, Genta would do it all again. During an Interview, he described himself sitting at a restaurant during the Basel fair. He saw a group of Patek executives at another table and began sketching out a rough design. It would become the steel Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref 3700/1, launched in 1976. A bold move, it cost almost as much as a 18k gold Patek Philippe watch at the time.
The design was based on the shape of the porthole of a transatlantic liner. It featured a wide bezel and ‘ears’ at each side evoking the large hinges of the watertight windows. The case was made from nickel-chrome-molybdenum steel, an alloy considered the highest standard at the time. This alloy was used in the construction of tanks during World War II. It was capable of enduring extreme temperatures and pressure. It also had the added benefit of being relatively light compared to ‘regular’ steel.
Inside the Nautilus Ref 3700/1 was the calibre 28-255C. Considered one of the best ultra-thin automatic calibres of the time. Based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 920, it was finished in-house by Patek Philippe. This is the same base movement used in the Genta-designed Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. By collectors’ thought in today’s standards it seems strange to imgaine Patek Philippe using a third-party movement. In fact, Patek Philippe didn’t introduce its own perpetual calendar chronograph movement until 2011. Instead they used heavily modified Lemania-base movements!
The Patek Philippe Ref 5711/1A
The Patek Philippe Ref 5711/1A debuted in 2006 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus. It was an instant hit with collectors and as you can see, has continued on an upward trajectory ever since. The distinctive porthole-shaped 40mm case is slightly larger than the original (+1mm). It measures just 8.3mm thick. An octagonal-shaped bezel frames the horizontally embossed black blue or silvery white dial. Baton-shaped hour markers white gold is treated with luminescent coating.
From an aesthetic point of view, this is about as simple as a three-hander with date gets. The ultimate exercise in restraint. It looks all but identical to the original Nautilus Ref 3700/1. There is so little happening on the dial and yet it is so attractive.
On the reverse, a sapphire caseback reveals the manufacture Caliber 324 SC inside. This self-winding movement incorporates several of Patek Philippe’s innovations,  include the four-spoke Gyromax® balance wheel and its slotted poising weight, the Spiromax® balance- spring in Silinvar® that maintains the oscillations at a frequency of 28,800 BPS. Equipped with a Central rotor in 21K gold, the movement offers a maximum power reserve of 45 hours. The finishing is also above reproach. Côtes de Genève, circular graining, beveled steel parts and bridges. This movement is adorned with the Patek Philippe seal for good reason.

Factors on why Patek Nautilus is so hot!
Brand Value
Everyone recognizes a Rolex on the wrist. Only the well-groomed few will be able to spot a Patek Philippe from across the table. The general consensus is that it is the most prestigious luxury watch brand in the world. It signals the refinement and sophistication of its owner. At the same time, it’s also understated…
Look
If you don't like the watch design, you may not buy it, as a Nautilus, I think it is beautiful,
It is quite large enough to read, simple dial hand design, thin and the watches case comes with a matching bracelet polished beautifully.
Quality

The Patek Philippe name is intrinsically linked to quality. You know that experts have spent weeks or months constructing your watch. Every Patek Philippe watch ever made has a searchable ‘extract’ available at the Patek Philippe archives. Almost no other watch brand can offer that level of confidence. Patek may be the one one company that can always Repair your watch regardless of age! That is why Rolex cannot handle…Thus your Patek is theoretically perpetual lasting!
Scarcity
Patek Philippe’s precise annual production numbers are a commercial secret. Estimates put them at around 48,000 watches. Of that, about 75% have mechanical movements with rest in quartz. Production is spread over about 250 different models. By averaging it, that means that no single model is likely made in great quantities. As a result, there is a real sense of scarcity.
Versatility
This is a watch that can be worn anywhere for any occasion. Wear it with a suit and tie, dress it down with a polo, heck wear it with board shorts to the beach. The case is rated water resistant to 120m. It’s beloved by celebrities, sports stars, movie stars,  collectors, investor, and successful businessmen and women alike.

 Investment Value

You should buy a watch because you like it and enjoy wearing it. Not because it might go up in value. The reality is quite different. There are only two luxury watch brands that have displayed a consistent ability to maintain or even Increase their value: Rolex and Patek Philippe. That the Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref 5711/1A is trading at double its retail value on the secondary market. Likewise for the Rolex Daytona Ceramic White 116500LN. This may not be the primary reason most people buy but it is definitely a significant factor.

How we should buy a Patek Philippe Nautilus with SRP!?

The auction route isn’t much easier. Patek Philippe easily beats all other fine watchmakers when it comes to record-setting hammer prices, and pieces continue to appreciate in value, as much as 100 times the original price. It’s estimated that less than one million watches have been produced since the company was founded over 175 years ago, whereas Rolex makes close to one millions watch within the years 2006. Even Rolex has reduced their production volume. Rolex still produces as many as 700,000 watches in 2017.

This making Patek Philippe watches among the rarest timepieces on the market.

Of course, with all the hoop-jumping required to buy the real thing, there is some fake stuff in the market. We will cover this topics in next post.

Buying a Patek Philippe is a life time investment. I must take it seriously..

Buying a Patek Philippe watch isn’t simple as just you have the money or a black diamond credit card.

Of course if you are those super rich persons, you don’t have to read this article as you can buy anywhere with you money paying at the market price.

I am talking about buying those hot model at SRP (suggested retail price).

Hot Model is Nautilus or Aquanaut such as Ref 5711/1A-001, 5712/1A-001, 5990/1A-001, 5986A… stainless steel models.

The market situation is so hot that we normally have to wait for years to get one of these watches at the Patek Philippe Boutique.

Last year yesterday this time I went to Geneve Patek Philippe, the senior sales executives told me that a local Swiss had to wait for 7 years for a Patek Ref 5712/1A-001.

It is time to line up for a Patek for your Son!! LOL.

Patek steel sport watches is somewhat similar to Rolex Daytona Steel model. Market price is over 2X of the SRP!

So for example a Rolex Daytona Ceramic Ref 116500LN SRP is $97,600 but normally you can only get one at the market with HK$188,000 or more for the white *1.

Patek most sought after steel model like Ref 5712 SRP is HK$298,740, but market price is about $500,000-$700,000.

For the most intricate styles, called Grand Complications, or the popular Nautilus and Aquanaut sport models, potential buyers must submit to an application process. The Stern family, which has owned the company since 1932, reviews each application to judge whether a prospective owner has a proven track record with the company and appreciates the fine craftsmanship of each timepiece.

In Hong Kong, only known few of my friends had successfully bought a Nautilus Ref 5712 and Ref 5711 with SRP.

These are the list of the preferred name that Patek would give the watch with higher priority.

University professor

Doctors

Movie Star

Successful Business man

Banker

Political Figures

Scientist

Senior Position in a Public listed company

Successful individuals

Hints

No need to be acting as a Patek Expert in front of the sales to please them. Some of us may know more than they on the watches, but they are the one to write up some points to send to the head office for recommendation. Just act normal, purpose is to buy a Patek Watch!

The name card is the key, but you cannot borrow your CEO’s name card to go as when they call, they will call the number on the card. When you buy, you must be the real card holder.

You leave your name card at one Boutique will do, no need to go to other boutique.

My suggestion is really make up a touching story to influence the salesman to tell this is your watch intented to buy, use and pass to your son in future…

They hate Dealer, if they smell you are the dealer, there is no more offer for you.

I know one Patek Collectors who has over 100 Pateks and every time he gets the watch he wants at Boutique as everyone knows him he buys and he appreciates the watch, and never sell out… So these are the people Patek likes to do business with.

The process is to leave you name card at any Patek Philippe shop written the model you want, our suggestion is to put maximum three models.

They will submit to the general Manager in the Hong Kong head office to evaluate if they would sell it to you.

Normally you should get a call from the Boutique within three weeks.

Patek Philippe is still family-owned company. The independence for unlimited freedom and passion on design. Highly tradition and retaining good values.

Start to do your research and purchase a Patek for you and your family members now!

All Patek Philippe timepieces are always a classic!

This is an article that I think it may be helpful for you to get a Patek hot model at SRP, there are already three persons we know get the watch they want by leaving his name card at Patek Boutique within the last 5 months in Hong Kong.

Everyone is happily bringing his holy grail home… !

Special Reminder, Nautilus Ref 5712-1A is really quite thin and if your wrist is big you might find that watch is too thin for you, at that time, call me and I buy from you.

Some of Patek Philippe Watches

Patek Philippe's Headquarters building and retail shops in Geneva. View from the Lake.
I had a chance to visit all floors by invitation last May 2018.
I saw a lot of Stern family's own collection of paintings beside beautiful timepieces.

A selection of Men's and ladies gold Nautilus model.
I like the one in blue at the middle.

Patek Philippe Model 130 (1941)
Watch with Chronograph and 30 minutes timer.
Silver Dial with raised gold Breguet Figures and Tachymeter scale.
Movement No. 862345
Patek Phillipe Men's Model 3700/1 "Nautilus" with Date display.
Case Water-resistant up to 120m.
Calibre 28-255C.
Designed by Gerald Genta and launched in 1976.
It is now worth HKD$1,500,000 nowadays.
Up to now Nautilus is still the iconic sport watch from Patek Philippe.

Model 5712/1A has a waiting list of 7 years at Patek Philippe Headquarters.

Patek Philippe Men's Large watch (1919) Third Quality: 15 Jewels bimetallic balance; flat hairspring; ebauche by LeCoultre.

Roger Dubuis' Much More has 50% resembling this Patek Design.

The Skeleton Watch
I wonder for how many hours they have to spend making such a piece of Art.

I think this is the minimalist's favourite Complication watch.
Model 3448 in 1967.
Underneath the dial would unveil the beauty of Patek Philippe watch making tradition since 1839.
The name Patek Philippe would arouse fascination and enthusiasm among watch collectors.
Timepieces manufactured by Patek Phillippe represent the best that one can buy for personal time keeping.

Patek Philippe Model 2497 in rose gold (1953)

Patek model 1554 (1942)
With this kind of condition it would likely reach a hammer price of HK$3.4M at Auction.

What can you say about this watch?
Too Small?
Too complicated?
Not Water proof?

No, nothing you can say anything at all except "just too Expensive"
This is Model 2499 (1951) John Lenon.
Life is too short for a beautiful Watch!
Patek Philippe ideally keeps the spare parts for more modern Calibre from mid 1930.
Even though there is no spare part, they an make one for you.
Of course Price is another issue.
So basically your Patek can last forever.
There is an exception that those enamel dial would be an issue such as the famous 2526 of the 1950's because such craftmen specializing in this skilled enamel work are virtually extinct!

Buying a Patek Philippe

Buying a Patek Philippe is a life time investment. I must take it seriously.

Buying a Patek Philippe watch isnt simple as just you have the money or a diamond credit card.

In Hong Kong, only known few of my friends had successfully bought a Nautilus Ref 5712 and Ref 5711.
If you are a doctor, artists, movie star, business man, professor would be an easier way to be qualified as the buyer. The process is to leave you name card at any Patek Philippe shop and name the model
You want, they will submit to the general Manager in the Hong Kong head office to evaluate if they would sell it to you at SRP.
Friend of mine has successfully obtained a Ref 5712R on his birthday Dec 2017 even with less ten percent discount! That was his best birthday gift! So if yuh can not get it within z6 months of two years. You may go to buy from open market with a premium.

The auction route isnt much easier. Patek Philippe easily beats all other fine watchmakers when it comes to record-setting hammer prices, and pieces continue to appreciate in value, as much as 100 times the original price. Its estimated that less than one million watches have been produced since the company was founded over 175 years ago, whereas Rolex makes close to one millions watch within the years 2006. Even Rolex has reduced their production volume. Rolex still
Produces as many as 800,000 watches in 2017.

This making Patek Philippe watches among the rarest timepieces on the market.
With all the hoop-jumping required to buy the real thing, there is some fake stuff in the market.

What are the telltale signs a Patek Philippe is fake?

Firstly, many fake watch does have extra printed function on the dial whereas authentic Patek doesnt have.

For example, platinum Patek Philippe watches carry a distinctive single diamond setting between the lugs at 6 oclock. The brand does not expose the Tourbillon complication or even balance wheels, outside of skeletonized versions, and with the exception of rare, limited edition pieces, Patek Philippe does not use eponymous casebacks.

Contrary to a lot of other high-end Swiss watches A Lange Jaeger Lecoutle, Patek does not blue their screws. Many counterfeits have blue screws. Simply you can see blue screw. Those are Fake Patek!

Looking at the movement of a Patek Philippe, we expect to see only the highest quality bevelling and fine hand-finishing.

Each one takes about four to twelve months of production, totaling between 50 to 200 separate assembly process, and after each step the parts are cleaned in an ultrasound bath with special
Cleaning agents.

All modern Patek Philippe watches use sapphire crystals. The texture often found on the dials and bezels is not stamped, but will be done by hand using a technique known as guilloché.

Most of these unique elements of quality are requirements of the Geneva Seal, as an independent Swiss agent, known for their mark of quality excellence.

Patek Philippe keeps all reference numbers and serial numbers within the watch. The watchs reference number and serial number are engraved on the inside of the caseback.

On Patek Philippe with sapphire crystal casebacks, the movements serial number and the calibre number can be seen. The watchs reference and serial are still contained on the inside of the caseback.

Fake Patek Philippes will often have model or serial numbers visible directly on the caseback. Depending on the age of the timepiece and the type of movement, the case should be stamped with either the Geneva Seal or their own Patek Philipe seal.

What distinguishes Patek Philippe from other watchmakers?
Precision Patek Philippe has mastered the art of fine watchmaking and their standards set them apart from their competitors

Patek Philippe is still family-owned company. The independence for unlimited freedom and passion on design. Highly tradition and retaining good values.

Start to do your research and purchase a Patek for you and your family members now!
