Where to Buy the Best valued pre-owned Rolex in HK!?

(The Pictures shown here on top is Kuen Kee and the Bottom is Lung Shing)

Where to Buy the Best valued pre-owned Rolex in HK?
This is a question from friends and fans of Rolex to me.
Well, to me, when I buy a pre-owned Rolex I have the following requirement.

1.The goods is original Rolex and Rolex parts
2.The Goods was bought from a Reliable legal source
3.The Goods is having no problem and having Rolex original Quality.
4.Come with Original Warranty certificates and Boxes.
5.The Price must be right and to me… I mean Cheap!
Well, as everyone knows that the first 1,000 Starbucks coffees for the day are made for paying for the rent in HK. As The rental fee in HK is likely Highest in the World. So when you enter the shop in Tsim Sha Tsui hotel shopping arcade to buy a pre-owned Rolex.. likely 10% is going to the pocket of the top-five Landlords of HK, through indirectly the Watch Shop.

So Where Can I buy good value for money Roles in HK!?
Well, My choice is Luen Shing and Kuen Kee in Sham Shui Po…

Why? As Sham Shui Po is HK’s poorest district in terms of People average annual income . The rent is almost lowest in HK, and the rent may be just 20% for that of Tsim Shan Tsui.

And They owe their shop. Meaning that they have intrinsic 20% tendency to be cheaper that other people running the same business.

That is True when you compare their price!
Another point is that they sell almost Rolex only, so you have a lot of choice.

They have been running almost 30 years under the same owner… So they have a good connection with Thailand, Malaysia, China, Singapore and Philippines buyers., In fact Kuen Kee does Whole Sales for Rolex….
On their other hand, their extensive experience to tell how good the Rolex watches are when they buy it.. Also since they owe the pawn shops they can some time get some very rare Rolex and they can dare to buy up!
So, next time when you think of buying pre-owned Rolex go to these shops!

Lung Shing is situated at Cheung Sha Wan Road 169. They open from 1200-1900 only
http://lungshingcentre.com/

Kuen Kee is situated at Ground Floor, 25 Pei ho Street, Sham Shui Po Kowloon.
Tel 27206632, 23864010. Website: http://www.kkwatch.com/ you can exit Sham Shui Po MTR Exit A2, go alone Pei Ho Street, across about 4 block of building, 200 metres away, you will find it. Not too difficult to find for Foreigner. If you are not too sure, go Google Map to take a look first. They Accept VISA… you can ask for some discount…if you are a good sweet talker… well, try to bring home a Good Rolex…
Ps. They display about 400 Rolex watches in the Kuen Kee Shops.

The DeepSEA is selling from HKD$39,000 to HKD$49,000, Submariner is selling HKD$37,000 to HKD$43,000. Explorer is Selling from HKD$29000-36,000.

In Luen Shing I have seen about 80 Rolexes Today. This is purely my personal comment only as I do not mean to say something bad about the shops in Tsim Sha Tsui, however the shop in Tsim Sha Tsui may have more other brands such as VC, AP PP, FM, RD, IWC, Cartier…etc

hi there HK snob, i'm planning to go nxt year to HK to hopefully by a rolex, i'm just doubting if these second-hand watches from your recommended stores are really authentic. I am afraid that maybe some parts of it is not authentic anymore? Is there anyway that I can authenticate it before buying it?Thank you

- Ann

HK Snob said...

Hi Ann,
same question can be posted on the watch you could buy from a AD at Geneva, will you question it fake?

Why you will not authenticate it?

Simply you trust them!

A matter is credibility and what is important is that the shop has guaranteed the watch is authentic.

It is your choice now.

what'sapp me i can talk more to help you make a wise decision.

thanks for your comment.

Hi HKSnob.

Just like the previously lady Lyn. After years of not letting my hubby buy an expensive watch I want to surprise him with a Rolex.

I know he wouldnt mind a pre-owned one.
So i know he likes the older submariner with date and I also know he likes the green submariner too.

So I was thinking of buying him a sub and try and get a hold of a bezel insert of the other colour. From what I have read, this is what some people have done.

My question is should I buy black or green sub? And is an official bezel insert hard to get hold of? From an AD? Or can I find them in ssp?

Thx in advance. Keep up the good work. Much of it is over my head. But a good read anyways. I've learnt quite a bit though.

Kat.

HK Snob said...

Hi Kat, Submariner Hulk green bezel and green dial is the most unique Rolex from Submariner series.

As you can think of using replacement green bezel will turn your Sub Date 116610LN into 16610LV but no way to turn into 116610LV.

Your concern is my concern; where to get the green cearmic bezel as Rolex will not sell you any part?

There is no such part available in SSP.

Simply go to buy either a new or used Submariner Hulk ref116610LV would be the best approach, and I am sure you husband would love it too...of course, lucky him.

Hi hksnob

Thanks for the prompt response... But I was thinking more of the 16610LV, Kermit, so I buy a black bezel insert? No?

Hksnob,
Great site. Very good resource for a newb like me.
Two questions.
I'm looking at a buying a used explorer 36mm 14270 or 114270.

Is the secondary market price ranges the same?

And in your opinion should I get the newest available version circa 2010 or a pre 97 model tritium with the hope of patina colouration coming into play with age?

Are such pre 97 seen around in SSP or MK?

HK Snob said...

Hi DX,
I prefer 14270, old old One, that loke perfectly in a old man's wrist like me...

I like it because it is not expensive, (another story if that is a NOS Watch)

Hi HK Snob,

Great Blog! I have a question. I am about to buy my first Rolex and my choice is a submariner no date. Is there a huge difference keeping value with a date one?

I am not sure if I would go for an used one (14060) or a new one (114060)? I think the old one is slimmer and have a better balance from case to bracelet. But then it's 2nd hand.
If later going to sell it, which design is more popular: one slimmer/old design case or maxi case?

Please advise! Which one would you buy? Thank you.

Regards,
John

HK Snob said...

Hi John,
Many people ask same queation
14060M or 114060 is better?

Refer to this Kuen Kee Price reference:

http://www.kkwatch.com/product_list.asp?sc=6&brand_id=RX&size_id=MEN&feature_id=DIV&mech_id=&body_id=&dial_id=&dial_color_id=&marker_id=&bezel_id=&bracelet_id=

A 14060M is About HK$38,500
Which is quite good in price as 8 years ago 14060M was about HKD$40,000 as official watch Price at Rolex AD.

Now a used 114060 is about HKD$40,000 to 42,000 i used watch market,

So all depends what you need
For collection?
For use?
For Both?

If for Collection, 14060M might be better than 114060 as it is going to be a vintage after another 10 years and looks slimmer.

For use, newer is always better.

But for Collection, I prefer the early 16610V Green bezel Flat 4, and the Sub Date 116610LV (current Production) as it is much lesser made by Rolex.

Whatsapp me if you want more info on price.

HK Snob

Anonymous said...

Hi HK Snob,

Thanks for your advice!

You mentioned HK$ 38500 is a good price. Do you mean still very high/expensive compare to original selling price or is it a good price for buyers?

I would like to have the watch for collection and daily wear. 16610LV and 116610LV are more expensive and the last one is a maxi case. Which one would you prefer?

Actually, how would you rank in term of value for money and as daily watch for 14060M, 114060, 16610LV, 116610LV?

You are a real expert! What is the difference between flat and non-flat 4 for 16610LV?

Is 14060M around HK$38,500 also the best price you could find for 4 line with paper? Do you think it is a good deal? How come the used price for 14060M and 114060 is so little?

Keep up the good work!

Regards, John

HK Snob said...

Hi John, Good price HKD$38,500 for 14060M means the watch has a good value in the used watch market. I had a close friend sold me 14060M at HK$22,000 some 5 years ago. Is that good prie?

Well, hard to say also. but if Full set HKD$38,500 is expensive to me as Why not I buy a new one 114060 from Rolex official or even Parallel at less 20%?

If for daily uses and value;
I prefer 116610LV, 16610LV, 114060,then 14060M.

Please note that price of used watch depending on these factors;
1. Complete set?
2. condition of the watch
3. Market price.

16610LV Flat 4 is early release and is rare. a preferred watch than non-flat 4.

Note on my Blog front page, Popularity of Submariner is
First 11661LV, then 116610LN, SeaDweller and Deepsea.
So Submariner Hulk 116610LV is top preferred watch for most of the submariner lovers.

Anyway, the most important decision if from YOU, if you like, that is OK!!

Hi HK Snob,

A great post and blog. Still going strong after all these years.

Can you tell me how much discount one could negotiate from the Sham Shui Po shops?

I notice that a G,V or M series 16570 Explorer II is advertised around HKD$35-38K with paper and box. How much lower would they go if you walked in with cash on the day?

Thanks and appreciate your response.

Hi Tony

Well, thanks
hard work pays... Sometimes.....

SSP shop, say old friend from Blog recommend you to go and buy that Watch... Chinese gives face...

ask for 3-5% more discount!

Usually no problem.

if cash, 5-7%.

It works sometimes.

But you have to show you are serious. Don't choose this and that, he feels you have no sincerity. Also only negotiate the price once you have decided to buy.

Have a nice day...

Hi Mr. HK Snob,

I hope you're doing well. I am from overseas and a loyal reader of your Hong Kong Watch Fever blog and have learned so much from it. Thank you!

If you don't mind, I wanted to ask you a few questions regarding buying modern pre-owned Omega watches. I will be in HK for a week and would like to go watch shopping but cannot decide whether to go to the tourist areas like MK, TST, and HK Island or go to the more suburban locations like Wong Tai Sin (池記錶行) or Shum Tsui Po (聯成,權記). I know you mentioned that rent drives prices up in TST but shouldn't greater competition mean I can get see more watches and get a better deal? I am looking for the Bond style Omega Seamaster Professional 300M. How much can I expect to negotiate on those, if you know?

Also, I speak native Cantonese and English, if that makes any difference in negotiating.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

HK Snob said...

Lp
Yes, If you speak native Cantonese, it helps if you go SSP show like Kuenm Kee, as they dont speak English.
The price if Kuen Kee is a bit high as on the price tag, but you can ask some discount at moment PROVIDED you are decided to buy.

If you don't have intention to buy, DON'T ask for discount as they don't like.

They are natively Kind people and like to help you if you can speak.

I have introduced a native American who came there to buy a Air King, he spoke English, well., he got less 11% discount... is that Awesome?... Let me know if I were in HK, I can come to buy with you....!!

Hi HK Snob,
I know this was posted a long time ago.. but im hoping you'll read this sometime anyway.
I live in HK. Ive been to Kuen Kee's shop recently and i would like to purchase a second-hand Rolex there.
However the guy there did not seem to speak English very well and I felt awkward asking questions like where the watch comes from, which year, is there an authenticity certificate coming with the watch etc..
How to be sure they are legit, I mean is that a thing to ask the vendor to remove the band to check the serial number for example? Can I trust them? I have lived in China too many years to be suspicious when buying branded items.
Many thanks for your answer!
C.

HK Snob said...

C
yes, you're not the one saying this.
they don't speak English, well, actually you want to read the S/N, of course, you can ask to remove the bracelet look at it. But all you know is the manufacture year only, right?

They are reliable, well except one case that fan of my blog who bought 10 watches from them all of them has been authenticated ok with exception that one of the date just bezel is not the original of that particular model. I believe this is a case that Kuen Kee was not aware when they got the watch.

One way to avoid this is to buy no non common model, go for the standard recent model, say to them for replacement if something happen.
If you are not too feel good about that. go buy new Rolex. my suggestion only.

Can I replace this at the AD or somewhere else? What would be the price?
And most important: after replacement or repair of this ring, is my watch still considered as authentic / genuine rolex watch or not anymore because some parts are changed?

Thank you.

- If I replace the bezel and outer ring, RSC will replace it exactly with a 14060M origin part and not with a part from another or newer model?
- Do you know how much it will approximately cost for this replacement? And if it goes via e.g. Chow Tai Fook/CSS etc.?
- And also would like to know the price of GMT 2 Blue/Black. What is the best price incl. discount and availability?

Thanks.

hi Samuel

If Rolex has the same original Bezel, they will give you, if not, they will give you newer one, anyway it is from Rolex... that is still original.
Sub 14060M Bezel is about HKD$800 to HKD$1,000. No need to go thorough CSS or Chow Tai Fook as you can do it yourself going 14 Floor Rolex. That should be mush direct and fast.
GMT Black Blue is at List price HK$67,300 some AD give you 5% and some 7% depends.
but most likely still not many stock available...

If parallel, it is about HKD$63,800 now

Hi HK Snob,

HK Snob said...

Hi Lina,

MRSP HK$102,000
At Rolex AD, you get less 5%, that is HK$96,900
USED one is approximately HK$67,000 to 78,000 depends on condition of the watch or whether if warranty card is included.

For gray Dealer, we used to get less 20% off the list price

Lina said...

Hi,

I thought the new 178273 ( white face with Roman numerals) was HK$66900 mrsp? Did I make a mistake? If it is $66900, what would a used one cost? If a watch is older than 5 years, should it matter if there is no warranty card?

Thanks for your help.

HK Snob said...

Hi Lina
Ref 178273 has a lot of variety, such as diamond dial, MOP dial, MOP with diamond all has different price.
Assume the basic one without diamond the list price is HK$70,000 for Jubilee bracelet
and $66,900 for oyster bracelet

if you buy from Rolex less 5% off using card
I buy with you less 10% using card
If you buy direct to me less 20% cash

\For used one it is between less 3%% to less40% off the list price.
if you buy used one, no need to care warranty or not as ,most of the time it is out of warranty unless that watch was sold in 1 July 2015 or later. that they carry 5 years warranty

HK Snob said...

Hi
Ref 18239 118239 dia marker is about HK$108,000 to 120,000
Ref 18238 118238 dia marker is about HH$99,000 to HK$110,000
Ref 18238 no dia marker is about HK$80,000
These are watch only in 95% new condition
Price is just a reference as the condition of the watch, paper and box will add value 4-8%
It depends on when and where , negotiation too.

Hi HK Snob,

This is a very helpful article, lots of good tips- Thank you!

Wanted to ask your advice: have a used ALange 1815 Chronograph to sell but no box and papers. Can you suggest where is a good place to sell with dealers in HK and what's a good price to accept?

Also my watch has wear and tear from daily use. Should I send for full service and polishing and change strap before selling? Maybe can get more money and a proof of authenticity from the boutique rather than with scratches and no paper?

Thank you for your advice.

HK Snob said...

It is always recommended to run a full service on the watch then probably you can sell higher.

Normally we sell at Chrono24, fb or direct to the shops like Kwai Yan, or Union Watch shop...etc in HK.

I went to both shops on 28.06.2017, they dont have any good prices, nor a big selection of Rolex Sport Models.
Actually they were overpriced! For a 2012 116613LB to ask 80k HKD$ ....? Come on, in TST you can buy that watch any day between around 70k.....
Staff rude, no english capability, may be they are well fed and not hungry for business, may be the weather is just too hot and their metabolism too slow? I dont know, but for sure NOT TO BE RECOMMENDED.....

Hi There ,
can you tell me which shop ?HK Snob

I just wanted to add that I went to both Lung Shing and Kuen Kee in Sham Shui Po today. I was disappointed in Lung Shing. While they had a good collection of watches I had emailed ahead to ask if they had a particular watch listed on their website in stock. I was told they did but they were silent on the price so I made the trip over there during lunch only to be told that they don't have the watch and that the person who replied to my email might not have known the exact watch I was talking about (despite the fact I took a screenshot of the exact listing). I was then told I couldn't see the papers for a particular Rolex until I bought it (which kinda defeats the point). Overall the experience was enough to put me off buying from them. For the record I communicated with them in Cantonese, so it wasn't a language thing. Kuen Kee on the other hand actually let me see the papers for the watch I am interested in and spoke good English.

Hi
Lung Shing guy is not the same one as before, This chap is so cool and not eager to reply your question. Wasting time to mail them, Just go to pick up the watch and check.

Overall Kuen Kee is much better, I agree.

Hello, HK Snob,

I was reading through your blog and find it extremely informative. I have been planning to look for a second hand 116520 (black dial) or a BLNR whenever I am in HK but do not know where to look for the best deal since there are so many pre-owned watch stores in HK. Would still recommend that I go to Lung Shing or Kuen Kee? Would you know what is the going rate for these watches in HK right now?

Thank you for your time.

HK Snob, thank you very much for all the information you provided. Interested in purchasing a GMT or Submariner, what is the best way to check for quality and also understanding that these are genuine rolex? Box and certificate or can you tell by looking at watch?

Hi HK Snob.. Seriously I have not much knowledge about watches but my preference is always Rolex. I already have a Rolex16700 and 116613lb. Currently I plan to buy a pre owned model with the budget around USD8k. What would your advice or opinion which model to buy around that budget Thanks

HK Snob said...

Hi Blinky
Probably as nice Submariner 16610
It matches with your budget too

HK Snob said...

Yes we normally can tell on the watch see if authentic or not. But more professionally way is to check the supplier also
Cause a reliable source usually no fakes!!

Hi HK SNOB.. Thanks for your speedy and valuable advice. I just come across the model that you digested which is 16610 around USD7K. I also saw another submariner which is 116610 is selling almost to USD8K. Now I am in dilemma, which model between these two should I get and it is a better item to collect? Thanks again

HK Snob said...

Blinks
Best Submariner as for collection in my mind is 1680 single red if you can find
But it is very expensive now, likely USD$20,000 with paper.
Or the 168000 transition period made for roducyion in a year US$6,000, hard to get full set I think
Then the 16610 if full set NOS would be best or mint full set US$10,000
If no paper then the 16610 is about US$7000 now

If for collection, always buy more expensive one with full set as the value is always there
If for usage buy a used one Submariner ceramic 116610 at US$6,600 to 7,000

My opinion only
