Rolex's New Watches 2013.

I modified the cut out pictures of Rolex Catalogue HK Verison June 2013

Rolex has its watch glamour over the years , they have created a lot of great beautiful dials and various combination of designs on Day Date since 1956, applying various kind of precious metal to cast  the sturdy Oyster case that houses the reliable and accurate mechanical Chronometer movement. In 2013, that Rolex has some new elements in making some of these eye-catching watches.

Platinum Daytona with ice blue dial and brown bezel, Day Date with 6 colour choice for those who have been blaming they are too young to put a Day Date on.

The Blue Bezel GMT Master that people is the long waiting list for one, the platinum Yachtmaster, and not forgetting those demanding women who need something matching with them with flamboyant colour dial decorations…

Torture your Rolex Watch!? You think you would break her heart? No Way!

Torture your Rolex!?
When I was in Primary 6, I bought a Rado, one way I put it in a glass of water, and put it into a refrigerator, after I took out the whole block of Ice, I still can see the watch was moving inside the Ice!
That was not enough, next day, I put the watch into the glass and I poured in boiling watch… The watch runs. And I think That was just it ran for a whilst as the crown does not have screw lock and the o-ring may likely work for that particular moment and It was not long later the watch start to slow down….
Well, there are a of mal-practice to abuse the watch…someone put the Submariner Ref 16610 into a dish washing machine and wash with 200 deg. hot water, and it was very cleaned and it was running fine afterwards.
Someone put the Submariner into a glass of watch and put in the top icy chamber of the fridge and it was changed into a cube of ice… it works normally like my Rado.
So we can say Rolex was very tough no matter icy cool water, 200 degrees hot water, it won’t hurt it?
So what is the weakest point of a Rolex….?

The Sapphire…. As it is synthetic sapphire, which has a hardness second close to diamond, by right, you cannot scratch it by using a stainless screw driver of NT cutter. But there is nothing indestructible…
If something is soft is not easily to be broken, but when something is very hard it would be very easy to be broken…

There are many cases that you $7,000 Rolex Submariner drop on to the concrete floor with the crystal facing downward, it would likely Broken…

The chance is 1 to 20 deepening the way you drop it, and depending the height you drop it and more critical how the crystal is facing downward flat or not…

My friend Conrad Lau who sold Rolex in Temple Street back in 1988, he worn a Boy Size solid gold Date Just who went into the MTR and he knocked his Rolex with the crystal facing the Stainless steel rail of the staircase. With sound of “ POPP!” he Crystal was smashed , and the dial was having damages wit few dents… he sent to Rolex Service center and Rolex replaced the Crystal and the dial free for him!!

So next time, do not think your Rolex is indestructible, the sapphire would break very easily in the right angle at the right force. That was one of the other factor people like the Plastic Crystal on a Ref 1803 Rolex Day Date as it never broken like Sapphire, it  would be get scratched much easier..
So take care your Rolex!  It is fragile sometime!
PS
When the crysal was broken, your have to pull out the crown to stop the watch or the pointers and the dial will be damaged!

Will Shanghai Replace Hong Kong as a National Financial Centre by 2020?

The Shanghai Free Trade Zone marks China's attempt to turn the eastern city into Asia's global business hub.(Carlos Barria/Reuter)

Will Shanghai Replace HK as a National Financial Centre by 2020?

The launch of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone marks China's attempt to transform its largest city into Asia's top global business hub. Will it work?

China’s Commerce Minister, Gao Hucheng, presided over the launch of the much-hyped Shanghai Free-Trade Zone (FTZ). Beijing had approved the zone with the full backing of Premier Li Keqiang, there had been growing speculation in Hong Kong that the former British colony’s unique role as China’s offshore financial center was in jeopardy.

Now that the 11-square-mile FTZ—which includes the tariff-free areas of Yangshan Port, Waigaoqiao Bonded Zone and Pudong Airport—is open for business, there are more questions than answers. The two big questions are: Will the zone fulfill its potential as a testing ground for bold financial reforms for the rest of the country? And, will Shanghai ever be a global financial center on par with Hong Kong?
“I don't think there is any chance that Shanghai will become a global financial center by 2020, because the country's service sector will take far longer to develop than its manufacturing sector.”

However there are the potential risks of Hong Kong,
Many post 90s generated are spoiled by their parent, too much protection becomes loss of competitions.

Hong Kong has to take a political reform for changes or the City will die, in fact we are dying now!
The last Semiconductor manufacturing company NXP has finally moves into Hui Zhou leaving only one Semiconductor equipment company ASM in Hong Kong as the government has no vision to support the hi tech industry, opposite the way Korea, Singapore and Taiwan has been doing in the past 20 year.

We had J-pop, now K-Pop, never could hear any HK-pop!
Now Four Little Dragons has change into Four Little Dragons and One Caterpillar (Hong Kong!)

The  renminbi and HK Exchange rate pull wider apart the gap between the dollar and RMB, 80% of food and major domestic utilities are imported from China, Hong Kong People is getting Poorer and poorer due to disgrace of buying power and inflation.

The confrontation between mainlander Chinese and Hon Konger is getting worse!

What Hong Kong people should do!? Nothing much to change the situation but going into state that the cases would changes their position.

Hong Kong people would one day work as a domestic helper in Shenzhen Rich Family home as they get paid in RMB.

China will import labour from Hong Kong especially middle management but remember that only those who spread good mandarin.

More Hong Kong student would rate Tsing Hwa and Beijing would be the first choice than University of Hong Kong.

More Hong Kong people would be called “Kong Tsan” (Hong Kong Pumpkins)

Rolex Advertisement in Shanghai 2005

Rolex will shift their focus from Hong Kong into China bigger city like Shanghai, GuangZhou, Beijing, Cheng Dou rather than Hong Kong.

Will Shanghai Replace Hong Kong to be a National Financial Centre by 2010, yet but almost!  May be Shanghai could replace Hong Kong by 2025!

The China Mainlander swipped way 200 Rolex Watches in One Rolex AD a day in Hong Kong!

One Rolex Shop in Times Square sold 200 Rolex in one day back in 2011 to Chinese Big Spenders!

“The Kong Tsan and the Locusts”
Hong Kong, A Dynamic City of no sleep, now is it going to be dead…

Hong Kongers are subtly losing their energy of original Hong Kongers, working style like we were in 80s.

Especially after it was crippled by the bird flu epidemic in 1997 and the SARS crisis in 2003. The Rolex store at Times Square sells 200 watches a day, mostly to mainlanders in 2011.

Where it was once Hong Kong that sent food packages to China in its time of need and supported the Chinese real estate market through investment, the table has turned: It’s China that helps keep Hong Kong afloat these days, the mainlanders flocking to the metropolis to buy its real estate and watches in Auction, often in cash, since credit cards still account for only a fraction of retail purchases in China.

Growing up, we felt superior to the Chinese. In Hong Kong people joke about how the mainland’s nouveau riche mixed Chateau Laffite with 7-ups. In one case a mainlander is said to have toted a bag of cash into a fancy boutique and blurted, “Where’s the most expensive stuff?” Stories like these support the long-held stereotype of the mainlanders as Ah Tsan, or country bumpkins, but as we point out, today the city’s Gucci and Chanel stores have long lines in front, a trail of seemingly endless demand. “There’ll always be the next group of mainland farmers who’ve made it big,”

This shift in economic power has exacerbated Hong Kong’s identity crisis, to the point where it is now the mainlanders who refer to their Hong Kong brethren as Kong Tsan, or Hong Kong bumpkins. Most residents view themselves first as Hong Kongers, not Chinese, underscoring a growing resentment toward mainlanders, who were referred to in a Hong Kong newspaper ad as “locusts” swarming the territory. Nearly half the babies born in Hong Kong’s reputable hospitals in 2011 belonged to mainlanders.

At a Canton Road Dolce & Gabbana store, Hong Kong residents were banned from taking pictures in front of the store’s window display. In response, over a thousand Hong Kongers gathered in the street in front of the store to demand an apology, while venting pent-up frustration that they were being treated as second-class citizens in their own home.

There is a renowned Watch Shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, that one night, one Mainlander came in and started to smoke, one HKer told him not to… and he continued his shopping, the Hong Konger complained o the shop keeper allowing customer to smoke. Well, the shopkeeper signaled the Hong Konger to go away immediately and he would close the door just to serve the Mainlander only as he was intending to buy a Rolex valued HKD$200,000!

Tensions are building, layer upon layer in the floating city. Visitors see Hong Kong as the emerald city on the mountain, but it’s an ailing city. The head is not working right. The limbs don’t work.

How Much Gold Rolex uses up a year!?

HK Snob's Collection of Gold and Silver Tie Clip, bracelet, Cuff Links...

This is the world longest word which is non chemical, non  technical word: Antidisestablishmentarianism.
I cannot understand this word, only after I look up from the dictionary.

Then do you know how many kilo of gold Rolex uses a year?
Base on the estimation, 200,000 watches is solid gold, and about 200,000 Two tone watches.
One Standard 36mm Day Date weighs about 145 gram in weight with 110 gram the weight of gold. Rolex Produces DD II 42mm, and various size of Two Tone carries 18 KT Gold...

With an estimation:  ..36,000 Kilogram of 24K solid gold. That is HKD$350 Million of gold.

Vanity drives us going for Rolex?

The latest Release Rolex GMT Master II Ref 116710 BLNR

Vanity drives us going for Rolex!?
Vanity can add significant value to a product, and this "Vanity factor" affects the prices of the cars we drive, the wine we drink, the shoes we wear, the pen we write with and of course the WATCH we wear!
To many people, the function of a watch is to tell time — and that's it.
If a watch that costs HKD$100,000 or more, is a terrible investment to this type of consumer.
"How much am I paying?" and "What am I getting for it?" are the two most important questions investors must ask themselves before making such a purchase.
The concept seems simple enough. However, personal views on functionality can greatly skew the value and demand of a product or investment.
A fair amount of research supports the existence the factor of vanity.
For instance, if you were to give two groups of people the same wine, but told one group that their wine was expensive, that group would automatically perceive the wine as tasting better.
But to others, a Rolex is a status symbol that is completely worth the cost. Than is more than Vanity factor for us to buy such a watch.
If you were to ask a random sample of Rolex users to rate their attractiveness, they would give themselves a higher average rating than would owners of any other watch. Likewise, a Rolex user is more likely to identify him as "high-maintenance."
Of course, owning a Rolex doesn't make you vain; it's just that a higher number of vanity-driven consumers have been drawn to the product as a result of its function as a status symbol.

Argument on Rolex

An interesting article I extracted from Website on two different Opinions, One is more pro Rolex and One is no. How about you? Which Side you are A or B?

A.
Rolex is arguably the most popular name in watches -- certainly when it comes to luxury watches. Classically Swiss, since 1915 Rolex has been producing watches designed for comfort, function and style. Today, Rolex is one of the most powerful luxury brands in the world working hard to retain its status. Rolex focuses on a few key watch lines that are quickly recognizable and highly desired the world over. Image aside, Rolex watches have a reputation for being very well manufactured -- despite what Dwayne Smith will tell you in his Arguments Against Rolex Watches -- lasting decades or more with simple care.
Rolex watches are classic
You’ll see below that most Rolex watches are archetypes: The Rolex Submariner is the classic diver’s watch, The Rolex Datejust is the classic formal men’s watch of the last half century and The Rolex Daytona is the classic sports chronograph. Rolex has benefited from keeping its product line simple and consistent. Instead of releasing brand new models, it keeps refining existing designs. This is extremely important because each watch contains the suggestions and wearing experiences of countless people who together have helped create timepieces that look good and work well.
Take the Rolex Submariner line as an example. Based on the classic “Oyster” water-resistant watch cases, the timepiece is specifically designed to be easy to read in most conditions, to be hardy and have a comfortable and reliable construction. The Submariner design has achieved an almost impossible task: to look good on almost every person, on any occasion, regardless of age or outfit. Other Rolex watches edge close to this ideal as well. You have to ask yourself the question of whether that is due to something about the design of these watches or rather because we have been seeing them on important wrists our whole lives, and they simply mentally fit these positive watch stereotypes.
James Bond wore a Rolex
Omega doesn’t want you to know this, but the original James Bond watch was a Rolex Submariner. Creator Ian Fleming wrote that Bond was wearing the timepiece, while Sean Connery in the role brandished his Submariner proudly. Countless actors, celebrities and politicians have also been known to be Rolex men. Take the popular line of Paul Newman Daytona watches, or the Rolex Day-Date nicknamed the “President,” because many U.S. presidents (and otherwise) during the 20th century were known to wear the watch. Wearing a Rolex and being associated with these people and personalities.

Rolex watches are the ultimate status symbol
Wearing a Rolex watch communicates to people that you are successful enough to have rewarded yourself with the luxury of a nice watch. Rolex watches are not the only luxury watches out there by far, but they are the most well-known. From basic entry-level luxury models to diamond-encrusted gold watches for the ultra-privileged, a Rolex is so much more than a mere timepiece. It is a statement about your way of life and taste. Some people take it even further; the world of aftermarket Rolex watches feature decorated brims and jewel encrusted designs, suggesting that telling time becomes a mere afterthought.
Other watches also want to be like Rolex, whose designs are the most copied the world over. Most of these watches legitimize “homage” timepieces with a different brand name, but there is of course the dark underworld of fakes as well. You’ll find at least a little of Rolex design in the majority of nice watches out there. So, even if you don’t have a watch with the Rolex name, chances are there is a bit of Rolex influence. You can’t deny that even if Rolex watch designs don’t move you, a big part of you wants one.
Rolex watches have excellent movements
Being a company that makes all of its own parts (rare in the watch world), it goes without saying that Rolex makes each of its own movements (historically, this was not always the case), excluding other watch companies from using Rolex mechanical movements. While Rolex is not known in the modern sense for having particularly complex movements (it offers basic watches with features such as the time, date, day, or a chronograph), it is preferred by watch makers to work on being so well designed, easy to fix and highly reliable. As such, almost every Rolex movement sold is COSC certified Chronometer attesting to its accuracy.
Rolex watches hold value
Among the few truly collectible watch brands from a value perspective are Rolex timepieces. It has been said that you can buy a new Rolex Submariner today, wear it for five years, and then sell it in good condition for close to the original purchase price. Like cars, most other watches lose a chunk of their value after being sized and put on a buyer’s wrist. There are also the investment-grade Rolex watches that achieve stellar auction results yielding some of the most impressive prices ever known at an auction. This is due to the power behind the Rolex name and brand, as well as the world’s fervor for these “gold standard” super watches.

Disagree? Someone comment
B.
Let’s get one thing straight: Rolexes are for people that know names but don’t know watches. For the price Rolex charges, you can buy dozens of other watches that are better looking, more accurate, much less common, and don’t make you look like you're an overweight white man coming off the golf course. Consider this: When former model Carla Bruni hooked up with newly minted French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the very first thing she did was make him swap out his gold Rolex for a much more refined Patek Philippe. Rolexes reek of desperation.
No one in their right mind should spend their hard earned money on a new Rolex. Here's why.

Rolex movements are over-hyped
First, the movement quality of your run-of-the-mill Rolex is nothing special. In fact, many much more affordable Swiss watches use movements that keep time just as well. To add insult to injury, there are even some Chinese, Japanese and Russian movements that are just as -- if not more -- accurate as a standard Rolex movement.
Rolex watches look stale
Rolex’s designs are stale. This brand hasn’t released a truly new model in over a decade, and the majority of the watches it makes today are exact duplicates of the watches it made half a century ago. In fact, the biggest innovation it has made in recent years is a new metal called “Rolesor,” which is heavily advertised as a great new substance for watchmaking. Guess what; it’s just steel and gold.
Rolex stories are nothing but a myth
All those stories you hear about Rolexes being chosen as the watch for great adventures are only half true. For example, Rolex claims Sir Edmund Hillary wore an Explorer when he scaled the summit of Mount Everest for the first time. This is not the case. In fact, he only carried the Explorer until he reached the summit and then put on a watch from a small British company called Smiths*. Hillary even wrote a signed letter endorsement to Smiths stating: “I carried your watch to the summit and it worked perfectly.” Rolex also submitted a watch to NASA in the early ‘60s to be considered for use in the moon missions. We all know how that turned out.

Rolex watches are for seniors or rappers
It is rare for a brand to be considered both stodgy and lame and ghetto fabulous at the very same time, yet Rolex has done it. If you ask one person on the street what they think of Rolex, they’ll tell you their elderly grandfather wears one in between rounds of golf and his daily 2 p.m. nap. If you ask another, they’ll tell you the only people that wear Rolexes are athletes and rappers. So which are you, a sleepy 85-year-old bald man or an 18-year-old athlete from the hood trying to prove his worth to the world?

My Comment
True that Smiths was the watch to be used up Mt. Everest.
Well, President does have not just Rolex I believe, PP, AP, VC, More to come, does not mean that he changed a PP will mean anything.
Rolex is unquestionable successful that is why a lot of uncompromising attack, but, one may feel that Why I have to wear Rolex when everyone in your sales group wear one. That is why people tend to keep a few pieces of Watches, not just Rolex.
Rolex Movement is accurate,  I think it is not just accurate, but it is very sturdy.
I think some of the Chinese Watch can be made with very accurate, but do not know how long it could last. 1-2 years May be?

Rolex isn’t expensive
Comparison a Solid gold top of the lie Day Date is about HKD$230,000
Whereas as a Solid Gold AP Royal Oak Drop Logo 39 mm HKD$475,000
An PP Nautilus Solid gold is also at least two time more expensive than Rolex
About Submariner, I had published another article that Rolex is amongst the three lowest price of all.
Anyway, watch is your personality, make a best choice you like would be fine. And of course if you want to make choice for using for twenty or thirty years, the service charge should be considered.
Rolex is one of the lowest in service charge
Rolex Service for cleaning the movement is about HKD$2,750  3 weeks
How about others?
PP may be HKD$18,000
AP may be HKD15,000
Roger Dubuis is $40,000

Of course the service charge depends on the typs of watch, complexity of the watch and types of service, anyway Friend told me PP changes HKD$500 for switching one leather strap inot another, Which I can make it in two minutes. Rolex may be free!?

And most of all, the PP, AP, VC, RD can not deliver you in weeks., they do Months
Well, think about the Cost of Ownership for long term. Rolex is not best but not bad!

What is the price level of Rolex Iconic Submariner, on the lower or higher side comparing with other similar Hi End Watches?

Friends of mine told me Rolex is the costliest watch brand and knowing that many people seem to agree with that.
Base one a price information between the most popular Sport model  Submariner and some of the market available iconic sport model of the luxury Brands.
We could see that the price of Rolex is not the highest. It is on the lower side of them.
Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic PAM 000104 $55,000
IWC-ingenieur-mens-watch-3234-03- $56,000
Rolex Submariner Ref 116610LN $57,630
Glashutte Original "Sport Evolution M" $74,000
Frank Muller 9880 SC CRO Black PVD steel Watch $76,000
Breguet Marine II Big Date Strapwatch $78,000
Ulysse Nardin "San Marco" $48,000
Vacheron Constantin Overseas stainless steel Black dial Automatic 47040/b01a-9094 $92,000
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self-winding 15400ST.OO.1220ST.01 41mm Stainless steel Automatic $110,000
Blancpain’s big introduction at Baselworld this year Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. It is presented in a 43 mm x 13.4 mm case and comes in brushed satin steel for $85,000 or ceramized titanium for $96,000
Patek Philippe "Nautilus Stainless steel $195,000
In Short, Rolex is not Highest price Watch amongst these Swiss Watches; it is one of the lower side.
Note that the above price is rough estimated only as every dealer has some price variation.
So, which one you would choose!?

Price shown here are all in HK dollars.

Sixty and Going Strong, You are Ready!

“There are 1000-year old trees in the mountain, but not many 100 year-old people”

At the most, you live until 100 years old (only 1 in 100,000).
If you live until 90, you only have 30 years.
If you live until 80, you only have 20 years.
Because you don’t have many years to live, and you can’t bring along things when you go, you don’t have to be too thrifty.
Spend the money that should be spent, enjoy what should be enjoyed, donate what you are able to donate, but don’t leave all to your children or grandchildren, for you don’t want them to become “parasites”.
Don’t worry about what will happen after you are gone, because when you return to dust, you will feel nothing about praises or criticisms.
Don’t worry too much about your children for “children will have their own destiny and find their own way. Don’t be your children’s slave”
Don’t expect too much from your children. Caring children, though caring, would be too busy with their jobs and commitments to render any help. No need to Learn Lee Kar Shing who is working for their sons.
Uncaring children may fight over your assets even when you are still alive, and wish for your early demise so they can inherit your properties.
Your children take for granted that they are rightful heirs to your wealth; but you have no claims to their money.
60-year olds like you, don’t trade in your health for wealth anymore;
Because your money may not be able to buy your health.
When to stop making money, and how much is enough (hundred thousands, million, ten million)? “Out of thousand hectares of good farm land, you can only consume three quarts (of rice) daily; out of a thousand of mansions, you only need eight square meters of space to rest at night”.
So as long as you have enough food and enough money to spend, that is good enough.
So you should live happily. Every family has its own problems. Just do not compare with others for fame and social status and see whose children are doing better, etc. but challenge others for happiness, health and longevity.
Don’t worry about things that you can’t change because it doesn’t help and it may spoil your health.
You have to create your own well-being and find your own happiness; As long as you are in good mood, think about happy things, do happy things daily and have fun in doing, then you will pass your time happily every day.
One day passes, you will lose one day;
One day passes with happiness, and then you gain one day.
In good spirit, sickness will cure; in good spirit, sickness will cure fast; in good spirit; sickness will never come.
With good mood, suitable amount of exercise, always in the sun, variety of foods, reasonable amount of vitamin and mineral intake, hopefully you will live another 20 or 30 years healthy life.
Going 60, but still Strong!
The Motto of the Story is: When We can have time, money and energy, try to help people, share the joy with your loved ones. And when there is surplus, treat yourself a bit better by a Bottle of Petrvs 1989; Mouton 1945 or Latour 1959.
Take out your vintage Collections of Telefunken EC803S, WE300B, or Gold Lion KT77 to replace those Chinese or Russian made cheapo on your amplifier. Buy a Killer Rolex that is not just telling time, but the History!
You Are Ready!

Hi Zenrai Gunnm,
His is the Chinese original Article

六十而不惑..
山中也有千年樹,世上難逢百歲人。”
最大限度,你也只活到百多歲(十萬人中才有一個)。
能活到九十歲,只有三十年;
你的錢財,兒女認為給他們是天經地義;
