I always have a Dream!

Do you have a Dream?
I do, no matter what sometimes I wish I could had my dreams come true.

When I was young I planned to be a See Fu of Kung Fu, I was amazed with Bruce lee’s kicks that come and go…in fraction of a Second faster than any camera could catch.

I remember he made a demonstration he kicked the iconic lamp on top of his head where he stood!

I tried to follow, practice, and I could kick at a height of 7', I was 5’ 3” only, Well, I made it., but that is not the real kung Fu… the Kung Fu dream lives on…

Back to 1985, when I met my first beloved wife who was to pretty and kind…. I married her after 7 days we met and I stayed with her for two years in Thailand…. Doing nothing, just Kung Fu practice… I was criticized as “Tsee Sinn” Crazy by my friend who knew me…

Well, up to this moment, that two years could  ikely the best time in my life…

After a whilst I was “Tsee Sinn” on Watches… this is not just Crazy, but it is like ghost that possesses me sincce 80s’;  and  I always thought That it could be a great happiness If I could have a Rolex Day Date ( or any Rolex in Gold! I got it From Kiu Tai Yu, that was a Bubble back Date Just 14K watch, I paid with HKD$5,000 in 1986. And later on my next dream of watch is AP, what if I could buy one… I got it later on…

But when I get older, those watches to me is not too meaningful after I own a few piece of watch , a Rolex… as Rolex was my first  Ghost came into my heart!

Well, I have owned a few pieces of Rolex once in a whilst, I upgraded it by selling and buying… somehow it was great fun was I EARNED some money after I sold it… Somehow this kind of dream made me get into real crazy….

One the other hand, I miss a few good occasions to get some of the POTENTIAL watches, but due to my limited RESOUCES (money), I had REGRET,.. many people know me I missed at least two of the GOOD Watches… one of them is the Submariner 16613 with Lapis Azuli Dial, at HKD$120,000 . I was sold at auction 6 months later at HKD$730,000..... " &*$^$&#)#&$&:)L"

Now I always tell to my friend, or someone who knows me if you want to buy good watch, these are some of the guide line (my own opinion only)

1.Buy no ME-TOO watches
2.Buy Ugly Watch nowadays ( it may be tomorrow’s beauty, not always, but quite often)
3.Condition, Condition, always go for the best condition
4.Always get the first ONE, the first lot, the first Release…
5.Complete set, unless you are going to use it every day.
6.If you have question, ask your friend, if still there is question; let the fish goes!
7.Wait and Smile!

This is my dream… and I hope one day I can catch a beautiful fish!

Today’s airport I “met” Charlize Theron… I grasped my Note III on an Impulse and make this Picture..
It is also my dream to meet her!

Bill Mark (Liam Neeson) wears a Casio World Time in Non-Stop (2014)

An air marshal Bill Marks springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline owner transfers $150 million into an off-shore account which is in fact under Bill’s name. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. With Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery.

If you are having great excitement flicks after Taken and Taken Two, I am afraid you are same as me, sitting in front of the screen watching this movie., you could not figure out who was the one who started this terrible threat to Bill, unless the last 10 minutes.

Bill (Liam Neeson) wears a Casio World Time
Casio is likely the lost popular watch for American average traveler
This is Casio FIRST EDITION: CASIO WAVE CEPTOR WORLD TIME ALARM CHRONOGRAPH REF. WV-58A price is about US$30 nowadays. I believe this watch was produced in 1990.

On the Other hand well, the co pilot Kyle is wearing a Patek Philippe, A Patek Philippe!? Yes, but it looks odd to me as a Pilot to wear a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar watch on board is very Rare as that is not that Kind of Complicated Watch for the Pilot unless he is really a Watch lover, a rich Watch Lover! Patek Philippe should carry a Slogan:
“ Wear Patek Philippe, Don't Leave home without it”
Do see this watch again, does it really having this watch from the Patek Philippine Catalogue!?  Such a functional watch seem to be embedded on such a simple watch case! It carries a funny Circle on the Minute hand!? What is that!?
The sub-counter shows the four year leap-year indicator, currently pointing to the third-year quadrant. The outer ring shows the date –One hand to indicate two function!? No way!
The hand points to Sunday, but also overlaps the 12. Either it is a second time zone or a day – but not both with one hand.
The 24-hour indicator sub-dial shows 2 pm. It is 12 pm on the dial. Looks strange on the dial and pointer arrangement and I donnot understanding PP alows them to put such a watch on movie. As if this is a Product replacement on Movie, Patek Philippe  would like to put a Real stuff seriously instead of this “ Watch”!
Interesting!

Amazing Story at Kuen Kee Watch Company

What do you think if one day you jump into one Pre owned watch shop and ask Prices, discount on one watches... but you did not buy, and then you ask another one, and you did not buy… even use your handphone to take picture of the watch on your wrist!?

What is in your mind that the Maximum Number of Watches that the old man could possibly let you try,  and “ play” like this…

Remember, Hong Kong has fast pace shopping culture, they don't have patience to entertain you like this…..
2 Watches?
3 watches?
watches… seems to be the upper limited, right ?

Well, this person has tried to put 15 watches on her hand one by one, took picture using the other hand.

Lili must be very charming, very sweet and most of all very pretty!!

Lili has successfully tested the limit allowing her to asked, tried, and pictured 15 Different watches in Kuen Kee on 3 Sep!
Next time you go Kuen Kee, can you try!?

Normally shops in HK is not likely to allow you take picture on their products especially with price!

Warning :
Don't follow Lili as you likely would have been kicked out to the street unless you are City celebrity or someone charming like Lili ...LOL!

Cyma

Citizen

Tugaris
"戴瑞士得其利是,利利是是"。成功的名字。

Octo

Technos.

Orient

Sandoz

Rodania

Vacheron Constantin

Favre-Leuba

Enica

Titus

Longines

Omega

Seiko

Ernest Borel

Tittoni

問題A

Swatch!

A Strap of your Wristwatch

A Classic Cartier Santos

In 1904, the Hot air balloon pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to his friend Louis Cartier that while he was flying with both hands on the controls, it was impossible to read the time on his pocket watch. This was the trigger of the very first wristwatch Louis Cartier made for his Brazilian Friend.

It was sold from 1911 as the Santos, and was the first watch with leather bracelet attachment horns integrated into the case. The Santos carries a distinctive feature of Cartier: a sapphire cabochon on the winding crown. After 103 years, still, this Cartier Santos seems never lose glory and style as it is still a Classic iconic Watch from Cartier.

Nowadays, a strap is perhaps is less expensive but is an indispensable component of a wristwatch.  Watch Straps can be easily changed to suit your taste, styles or outfits…it comes come in a countless variety of colors, materials and design.

Many watch users have overlooked the importance of your watch strap, as if it fails, your expensive 2mm solid gold dress watch will drop onto the concrete ground…
”@&#^#^!” Is that next words I could hear from You!

Watches continued this way for many decades since Santos, but as these gruff “wristlets” sooner evolved to be more refined, detailed, even made as the predominant fashion nowadays. Removable spring bars allowed for changing of straps without rivets in the 30’s.

Most of the straps designs today have not changed much today.Thick leather straps with contrast stitching are often found on beefy sports watches, such as those from Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, Panerai, U-boat, Bells & Ross…They tend to complement with jean.

Whilst, thinner, more exotic skins are still the choice for high-end dress watches, since they tend to complement a suit with leather shoes and a belt. Not the other way round!

In 1980, seems they are made thinner and less crude, stylish matching with the thin watch as the trend setter: Universal, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet.

Leather Strap material had been using different animal skins, and now straps can be made from cowhide, pony tail, horsehide, crocodile, alligator, snake skin, lizard, stingray and ostrich skin.

French Flag NATO Strap on a Vintage Rolex Air King.
A Courtesy Picture from http://blog.trashness.com/

NATO strap
The one-piece cheap NATO nylon straps were first developed for the British military designed to run across the back of a watch and through the spring bars, they may also be the best way to save your watch since if one spring bar breaks, the watch remains on your wrist.

The straps are known as NATO straps because they were given a stock number by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (or No Action Talk Only for best describing my boss) for use by soldiers and divers.

NATO straps have become hugely popular with fashionistas, and are sold in striped patterns colour. Ironically, a HK$200 NATO strap now may be used to carry a HKD$500,000 Submariner!

Rubber
Supple Rubber straps have a long “Marriage relationship” with sports watches and diver watch, cheap comfortable, flexible, resistant to water, sweat or corrosive liquid.
In the 1960s, the first rubber straps were called “Tropic” straps, and the rubber used was stiff and often became brittle after a few years and or under sunshine.

Nowadays, silicone rubber straps can be found on expensive diver watches and can cost ten of thousands of dollars each!

Hints on Maintenance on your watch strap:
A well maintenance watch strap can last for years.
An fine alligator watch strap is expensive, and it has certain limitation in usage.

It does not go well with water or sweat
It absorbs water and sweat, it may create fungi and becoming smelly!
Sweat would corrode the leather especially in the hot and Humid Hong Kong Summer.
It does not like sunshine or it get hardened and cracked easily.

How to keep you expensive watch strap in good shape!?
Like your Ferragamo, leather has life and it has to breathe, give it some rest once in a while.
Use soft tissue paper to absorb the water or sweat immediately.
Put it in ventilated area for drying up
Put some fine soft leather nourishing lotion or shoe shine wax on all the stitches and leather surface, then wipe off with a fine soft cotton cloth.
This will keep you leather strap lasting for many years.

A drop of Loctite threadlocker will save your Rolex from dropping!

This is an accident to get scratches on another friend's beloved GMT Master II,
Since this is new, I suggested him to bring to RSC for FREE Polishing!

 Loctite 242 threadlocker

Have you noticed that your Rolex watch pin for locking up the links were added a drop of threadlocker?

That tiny drop of threadlocker could save your expensive Rolex from loosening and or drop out!

Today my colleague's new GMT Master Black blue was dropped,  luckily onto the carpet!
Simply the Korean Rolex shop staff did not put any threadlocker onto the pin when he bought his watch at Seoul Airport.

In Hong Kong, there are shops don't apply Loctite onto your Rolex. There are also Rolex AD to put Loctite after bracelet lenght adjustment.

I would recommend you to use as the Threadlocker is not adhesive, it prevents pins or screws being loosened. It will not corrode the gold pins or stainless steel pin of your Rolex bracelet. Same for Roger Dubuis, the shop manager at PP helped me to add Loctite too to ensure the massive watch case won't be separated from the leather strap due to loosened gold pin!

Next time, remind your Rolex shop to do it after bracelet length adjustment.

I listen to Aus Pron Star's advice to apply Loctite 242 is it is would not seized on all fine screw Rolex bracelet pin.

As for my big Roger Dubuis, I used Loctite 262 which is a stronger threadlocker as the pin is much thicker and would be unscrewed without difficulties.
