7. I am a student, can you reduce your price? (I know most students are very rich)

8. Mr. X is 20% cheaper, sorry! (I think I am Mr. X! Who else?)

9. I decided to wait for BaselWorld next year! (2021, or 2022?)

10. My wife has just got pregnant, I cannot buy now! (This is good one, but don’t know how many times he could use this excuses 😆)

It Happens!

Theses are some of the fact about what I have experienced over the recent five years.

Have you seen a watch that is brand new at Boutique that when you press the Chronograph button, it does not work?

Have you seen that when the salesman receives the watch from Swiss, that he find the second hand is dropped out under the crystal, that the watch is priced more than USD$200,000.

I have ordered an Pink Gold Automatic watch for my client in Philippines, and my sales manager at the AD called me,… I almost fainted, as he told me the watch does not work, It failed to move! That makes me shocked as I had only three days to find such a watch to deliver to my client… that watch is Selling at list price HK$251,000.

Have you seen that a Brand new top watch brand in the world. The client checked the watch at the AD shop, and surprises to find that there is an obvious scratch line on the solid gold rotor under the sapphire bottom plate? You would ask is that possible?

I have tried to sell a watch which has been using zenith movement on the chronograph function, that was a solid white gold watch with meteorite dial, when I tried to start the chrono counter, the hands did not move!

There is a prestige watch brand that is new and watch is not working the second day after the purchase…

It does not move at all after running for about 48 hours… even though you wind up the watch manually full, and it does not move… and they replace it to you free immediately.

So Next time when you buy a Watch no matter it is a Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin… IWC, JLC… whatever….

You don’t assume that the watch is perfect, it may happen some of the things that you don’t want to, you don’t expect to… happen…

Check the function carefully, especially complicated watch with Chronograph or perpetual calendar function…

I like the watch that when I hold it gently and start to wind up the crown… after a few rounds, it starts to move by itself instead of applying jerking swing it to start! That is a good watch…

Well, there is over 2,500,000 * watches shipping to Hong Kong Every year, the failure rate is very low… may be 100* ppm.. so Hope that you don’t have that LUCK to receive such watches… (my estimated numbers only)

When , What, Why, Who to buy Watches

When, What, Who and Why buy Watch!?
There is a nice chatting with one Singaporean Surean about buying one branded watch in the cities. From what we know there may be a need to clarify some of the concern of what watches we should buy, when we should buy or who we should buy from?

Provided you are having no concern with money, well, you don't have to read this article as only people have limited resources for watch need to spend with caution.

Why we have to buy watches?!?
Simply because you need to buy a watch you like to have for investment, for rewarding yourself for the hard work after you get the bonus, or simply you feel itchy when seeing some of the beautiful watches at the window glass or on someone’ Swinging wrist in front of your eye contact vicinity.

When you should buy the watch?
Of source when the watch is selling at sales, typically for mid-low end one, there is Xmas sales less 30% to 40% for walk-ins, that is pretty good discount that normally we don't have mid-hi end watch, there is no special reason why they will give you special discount, so When?
Yes, when there is an exchange rate drops, such as 1997 When I was in Thailand that baht dropped 100% , I bought a Rolex lady DateJust, an AP, a Cartier at good price in one shot.
Now if you go to Japan, you should be still able to enjoy as Yen has dropped to hell low as with US  Dollar has been pegged with HK Dollars since 1985.,
And You should act fast as most of the people buys the hot GMT master II Black Blue, Daytona Black or White, Submariner Hulk or Black, after a few months, I believe there will be harder to find these watches any more.

Who to buy from?
There is people scare to buy watches from Parallel Import Source, as they feel that an office Authorized Dealer look more comfortable to you, Yes, of course, If you go to Cartier, Chanel, Rolex, Patek Philippe Boutique the way they serve you make you feel like you are King! Of course don't expect they give you a lot of discounts.
How about parallel importers of grey dealer watch? No, they are not official dealer, but as far as I know, many of them were taken out from Watch from AD!, and some of them are very powerful watch Dealer.
Their watches are authentic watches with price less 20% or even more! However they usually do not come with Box, or pay a few hundred more for a Box.

What is the concern if you buy from Grey dealers?
1. Go to shop/Person that has good reputation
2. You know him/them well/ highly recommended from Social Media
3. They usually take CASH only, no card accepted
4. Box with additional Charges,

What to buy!?
That really depends on what you are looking for!?
But One thing that can be as a hints, some of the hottest model is not necessary hot in other country, such as Deepsea, Yacht master II steel and two tone and there is a lot of DeepSea in German,  Sweden and Finland, so that you can buy at a bigger discount there.

Where to Buy?
As there is no tax for watch in HK, naturally, buying in HK might be one of your consideration
and That is why there is almost 90 AD shops selling the Rolex in HK.

So in short what is the best value buy!??
These are some of the samples
DeepSea Ref 116660 black 44mm from grey Dealer (Official List price is $88,000)
Price at AD is $83,600 (5% Disc.)
Price of parallel is about $70,000 to $72,000 (20% off) full set box included

Ref 116680 Yacht Master Stainless Steel 44mm with Blue Ceramic bezel, (official List price $145,300)
Price at AD is $138,035
Price of Parallel Watch is about $116,300 – $115,000 (less 20%)

Ref 116520 Daytona Black list price $90,000
Price at AD is about $97,000 to 98,000 (+10%)
Parallel Watch price is about $90,000 to 92,000 full set.

It is not uncommon that sometimes an official Rolex could be cheaper or similar price of a Parallel watch of hot sport model.
Note, some of the parallel watch network under promotion that offer a brand new Watch Winder as gift with watch purchase.
HK Snob
PS , this is purely personal opinion to share with you.
and the watch price quoted is an estimation for your reference only as different network may have different price.

Tom Ford designer' s bag US$32,500.

I have a cream....! Sorry dream...才對!

WIS and RPR

Learnt from Suzanne Wong of Revolution Asia Magazine the terms WIS (Watch idiot Savant)
Yes, I am a Watch idiot but not a watch savant! There are a lot of watch savants in the world.
However, I think "WIS" is a nice term to describe those people who love watches...

Friend of mine talked to me his friend has a lot of Rolex, probbaly 30 Piecs of White Gold 1803 of different colour, I think he can join this RPR, Rolex Passion Report club!

You may feel the same as me to open my eyes to see so many good stuff they have!

Hey, does not matter, there is always a higher mountain, there is always a Richer people, there is always having people who has 5,000 Rolexes...It is odorous to compare!

Sometimes it is a pleasure to see how many good stuff someone has. From there the more I learn, the more I feel I know nothing. More watch one has, more humble he behaves as he knows there is a lot of big mountains in this world.

Have Fun on what you have!

Cyma

Citizen

Tugaris
"戴瑞士得其利是,利利是是"。成功的名字。

Octo

Technos.

Orient

Sandoz

Rodania

Vacheron Constantin

Favre-Leuba

Enica

Titus

Longines

Omega

Seiko

Ernest Borel

Tittoni

問題A

Swatch!

Live Rich and Die Poor, not the other way round!

Content makes the poor man rich, discontent makes the Rich man poor.
- Benjamin Franklin Quotes

I enjoy the power of Money, and I am not ashamed to admit it, I had rather be a Rich Snob than a poor!

Whenever I can, buy me a gift as a catalyst to drive me work harder, make me happier. Of course at the end of the month, we should reserve certain saving for investment...

Not the other way round, only saving and investment but never spending money, that he will likely Lives Poor and Dies Rich!

I had rather to be Live Rich and Die poor, the spirit of snob!!

Some CULTURE that you may not be aware especially you are Foreigner in buying Pre-owned watch in HK

Many Foreigners coming to HK buying pre-owned watches in HK, from Singapore, Dubai, Thailand, Malaysia, Europe, Australia, Indonesia and Philippines…

There are a few things that we might need to know…
Usually they have not much patience in handling case that if they feel you are coming for "Price Check" only, or you have made them felt that you are Low-bailer. Before you go there, do some home work for that particular models , rough there is a more –or-less price Range.

If you ask this how much, OK, but once they feel that you ask this model, then other different model, they feel that you are not serious enough, they Will not welcome you… or at least they don't smile at you!!

The offer for discount in Shops in HK is valid only in that particular Encounter, the HK salespeople are moving fast and they don’t like non-sense, that hate people coming to ask discount and leave…unless you don't come back the same shop again…or they could not recognize you!
They will offer a discount to you provided you are a real buyer… they have experience to tell who you are and what is your intention from their years of sales experience dealing with various Customers.
They do it all same to Tourist, Gweilo, or locals, They don't like non-sense… Once when they feel that you will be buying, they will serve you well, this is true on those shops who have been in the market for many decades.

Next Time, when you come to those shops, remember this…
Normally we can get less 3% to less 8% depending on model or shops…

Very Exceptional cases, they offer discount more than 10%l, or you had better beware if you get more than 10% discount!

Proposal Of Making Watches with Human Gene...

There are so many kinds of material have been used for making watch case since the last two centuries…

Silver, yellow gold, White gold, stainless steel 316L, 904L, Pink Gold, Platinum 950, Brass, Silicon, plastic, ceramic composite, carbon composite and  solid Sapphire case…

Audemars Piguet using composite material to make a watch case that takes a tedious process to manually inserting fibre into as watch mold, then apply pressure and heat to form the light yet strong material as case.

I got an idea that watch has become a personal touch of having some human Tissues, hair or human Waste… as part of the material of watch case…

Idea is from a French Artist who put his personal "Shit" into a Can and sell in auction, someone bid with few thousand dollars.

We had some Chemical analysis on those excrement found in tomb of the ancient Chinese Emperor to analyse what food they took back to their time thousand years ago.

So what if I get some of the personal genes from some of the celebrities to make the case!? After a few thousand year, probably with that technology, the extraction of the DNA could possible re-build the man/lady…

As far as I know if portion of the material can be used for the watch case is Bone, tooth, blood?
That could be mixed with carbon composite!

So if say Obama limited Version can be made with Carbon Composition to make an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Off Shore Obama-President-limited version.
Hillary Clinton Hublot Big Bang Pink gold called Hillary-Secrets.

George Bush Audemar Piguet Royal Oak you can call it “Bush Desert Storm special
What if we mix with Bush’s excrement to make the case? Shall we call it Buxx Shit?

What is the upper limit of an Overseized watch!?

When did the watchmaking world accept the mantra of “The Larger is better”?

I’m a big fan of vintage watches, and find that a slim Audemars Piguet of 34 mm, I don’t mine the Royal Oak Jumbo 39 mm,  a Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso of middle size, Rolex Day Date of 36 mm, Vacheron Constantin Overseas in 36 mm diameter looks perfectly for me.

Back to 80’s started as a fashion from Italy, men wore lady watch, I like the Boy Size Rolex too at that time...

No one know exactly when? May be 1995 and onward, some of the watch makers  tended to make watches of big size, massive, with thick metal, big Crown, complex Crown Guard lock up mechanism, wider strap of thicker material like your leather belt on your trousers!

Oh! it is a watch….It does hurt the feeling some of the fine Swiss watch makers used to make thinner and smaller watch movement?

I always appreciate thin manual winding watch that is below 5 mm, or an Automatic watch that is below 7 mm thick… they all look great! I believe many watch collectors agree what I am trying to say…

My point is,  say technically the bigger the watch, the easier it is made! The Higher the Profit margin only.

Nowadays, the watch goes crazy  with OVERSIZED diameter of 42 mm, 45 mm, 47 mm, 50 mm even 60 mm!? Is there a limit? 80 mm? or even 100 mm?

Is that a watch anymore? Who can use them? I believe you have to mount it on top of your sleeve. How can you INSERT that monster under the sleeve, particularly how when peeking from under a dress shirt cuff.

I understand that sometimes it is hard to go against the current on what the trend of the majority of populace is. Like the width of the tie, the width of the collars, the diameter of your trousers bottom, type of glasses, hair style unless you want to stand out at the crowd as WEIRD, ABSURD, a DIFFERENT Look! But for an Oversized Watch, yes ,it would get someone’s response of “ WOW!!”

Sometimes it is needed for bigger watch as it can display more functions on it. It is easier for the older person to read.

Every time I go into a watch store to look at their wares, seems the watch grows bigger every year and next year’s flagship model will be the size of a coffee mug, or Wall Clock. There may be some complications that require such size and depth, but for the vast majority of populace that can’t afford or doesn’t want a Richard Mille, do we really need to carry an Anchor of harbor tug boat on our wrist to be considered a member of the horological caste?

Well, since 2 years ago, it is nice to see some of the GOING SMALLER watch trend for lady…

WATCH is a reflection of your taste and Character… if you like is , no one would not disagree!

What if Rolex make facelifting design on Daytona with a Size of 46 mm, will you consider it a Future Classic!?

Yes, many people will buy if there is such a watch, but Rolex is very conservative to launch a big step changes on size.

For every 5 Day Date sold, only one Day Date II was bought by Asian, DD II may look matched for 6 footer.

Rolex biggest watch is yacht Master II of 44 mm, which is only 5 mm larger than the AP Royal Oak Jumbo 39 mm created 42 years ago!

My favourite Rolex size is 36 mm for me, and I think 31 mm is best for lady. Simply the Divine Proportions tell us....

Voice for the Mainland Chinese...

I did see those rich people really toss their unduly request for more… there was furious guy on my left asked the Chief Purser to adjust the air con colder. She did but failed to meet his COOL requirement…He worn an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak stainless steel 44mm Chronometer.

The one on my right was a Gweilo Business man did the same to hang his legs up the partition in front of him, well, if he has Hong Kong Foot, definitely the stinky foot would spoil my appetite. He worn a Seiko 5 Auto stainless steel watch with a Silicone watch band…

Mainland Chinese has been labeled as rude, impolite, and
arrogant in recent years by many HK people.

To be fair to them, those are just the minority happened to be found in HK, remember 70% HK's visitors is from China.

Here we can see not only Chinese Tao Hu was reported having this bad habit, it is not uncommon to see Gweilo, Phlippino, HKer, Indian, American, Singaporean, whoever would likely behave this way.

And I think that we should always bear in mind to be considerate and have certain etiquette no matter when, and where…

I am glad that we have the aircraft to be a non-smoking zone everywhere...

I am afraid one day we will be allowed to talk on mobilephone…then we will never be able to take a rest in the aircraft anymore!

Everything goes Rental!

For almost everything , you can get rental in HK
Houses, VCD/DVC/Blue Ray/ , Hotel, Office, Chinese Wedding dress, Dragon Pheonix, double happiness 24kt gold bracelet ( I am not sur eif this is the proper name!)
Rolls Royce wedding limo with driver, Luxaury Yacht, jet plane, Woman body as for some rich family’s daughter in law rental, but she must get a son or much lesser reward with offspring for a daughter…old Chinese thinking… son instead of daughter as the next heritage of the family’s wealth.

Old people teaches us don't rent as eventually you will get nothing. But somehow if current real estate price of HK remains high at this level.
I bet most of the current newly married couple has difficulties to buy a Love-Nest. Only remaining choice is to rent, at same time save up enough money for the down payment of their own home later…after several years…

Now a new category has joined the rental-rich trend: luxury watches.

A startup company called Eleven James has launched a timepiece timeshare that allows customers to get a new luxury watch every couple of months for an annual fee. The watches range in value from $7,000 to $50,000  or more, and include top names like Rolex, Audemars Piguets, Cartier and Patek Philippe.

Well, do you think you could possibly go into this RENT-A-WATCH!?

What if the watch was ripped off at corner of somewhere, or damaged accidentally, or spoiled inside a Sauna room? Will there is any argument of fraud cheating on the Expensive timepiece?

Well, there is an estimated 40% unhappy HK people borrow money from Bank for overseas tours, and more and more people will tend to spend their saving for some short term enjoyment!? Look at those hundred squadron of sex soldiers running to North after Friday evening for a paid one night stand at KTV…Sauna Clubs.. that could be an estimated expenditure of HKD$50M!

Watch is not like home, car that you can USE it. Watch is one of your personal belonging, I would not rent a watch for 3 Months even it is 10% of the original selling price… It is too Expensive!
