Record High Auction price: Patek Philippe Supercomplication pocket watch
In Geneva, Switzerland, on November 11, 2014, the hammer fell, signaling the end of a highly anticipated Sotheby’s event that would once again return the famous and completely unique Patek Philippe Supercomplication pocket watch to the auction block.
In the hours after the end of the auction, a bevy of luxury lifestyle and financial world journalists eagerly reported on the record-setting value not only of the Supercomplication watch itself, but of any previously auctioned timepiece. The final price, bid via proxy for an anonymous entity was 23,237,000 Swiss Francs – an amount that converts to over $24,000,000 USD
Now, with $39,336 US Dollar can buy 1 kilo of gold, that Patek Philippe can be used to purchase 610 Kg of 24 KT solid gold....hmm

The Most Expensive Watch Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatuor finds its way to the million-dollar watches list thanks to its case, which is made entirely of silicon, a material with half the weight of titanium and four times the hardness. Roger Dubuis told me that thave have made three pieces only, only two pieces were sold.
The Quatour — yes, the most expensive watch produced to date by Roger Dubuis — is equipped with the RD101 movement, notable for its four sprung balances, which work in pairs to compensate for the effects of gravity much faster than a tourbillon would, resulting in a more accurate watch.
I am coming from Semiconductor Industry, a piece of 6 inches Silicon Wafer of thickness of 0.02 inch is about USD$100, 2 of these wavers may be good enough for makring the Roger Dubuis watch, and I think the Silicon is hard but it is brittle, so the Excalibur Quatuor case material should not be pure Silicon, might be doped with some other metal, my guess only.
Even ISIS threatens to behead me, I don't buy as those Material is too cheap! Of course, I would never have that kind of Money, forget it!

World Smallest Watch
Here is the world's smallest mechanical watch movement, and you'll be surprised to learn that it was originally made 80 years ago in 1929.
It celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. It is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 101, and it is still made today. (as shown on the avove picture)
The original movement had 78 parts while today's Calibre 101 has 98 parts. Meaning that over the years it was almost possible to shrink parts down even more and keep them in the same space. It is 14mm long, 4.8mm wide, and 3.4mm thick. Really little and it weights around a gram. I repeat : One Gram!
