Watch Investment

There is common understanding that an expensive purchase is an Investments.

Do you think your new Handphone, a 65 Inches TV could hold the value after 5 years!

Probably no, a smart watch, no?

A gadget-fashion piece that will be outdated and lose value as time passes. People don't buy mechanical watches for high-tech features, so they're not at risk of becoming obsolete.

Like wine, art, real estate in Hong Kong or Bangkok, other hard assets like diamonds, gold, people sometimes do refer to watches as alternate “investments”.

So what watches best hold their value?

Range from $5,000 to $12,000 that is falling into the majority of the average price of a reasonably Good WATCH.

Interestingly, Rolex major stainless line, the most popular lines are within this price range.

Rolex on the other hands maintain small model line that suits most of the people’s need, GMT, Submariner, Daytona and Explorer, Milgauss….

While you shouldn’t count on a watch to produce a solid ROI, you can do a few things besides just getting a Rolex to give yourself the best chance at making a decent profit in 10 or 20 years.

Of course, not all Rolex would help to make big ROI… not Date Just, not Air King, Not Lady’s model.

These are the suggestion

New (best is you get is at SRP)

Submariner Hulk 116610LV

Daytona 116500 Ceramic White

Submariner Black 116610LN,

GMT Master Blue Black 116710BLNR

Buy Pre-owned to save 20% on the new watch price…

Sea Dweller 116600

Submariner 16610LN

Submariner 50th Anniversary 16610LV

Vintage

Daytona 16520  Black A series, K , S series Patrizzi – Rare (170,000 roughly made between 1988-1999)

GMT Master 1675 Pepsi, 6542 Pepsi

Submariner 1680, 6536

Sea Dweller 1665

As these things are still available at a 'Reasonable' Price.

Please note that a GMT Master Pepsi 5642 was HK$30,000 in 1990, but now is HK$350,000

A BNIB 16610LV Submariner Kermit “flat 4” was sold in 2003 at HK$39,500… Now HK$120,000!

Of course the current high preice is basically driven by promising USA economy and Asia share market, people would put some of their money into watch investment….

See Recent Sotheby auction on Patek Philippine 3700 in gold it was sold as high as HK$625,000!

How about Paul Newman’s “Daytona-  Drive Carefully, me”?

My Choice, so as if you afford, go for these four number models and 16520…. They are the best in ROI.

Swiss Watch Winder

What are the essential design concept of a watch winder?

There should have no magnetic interference onto the watch, not to magnetizing your watch.

The motion of the winding should not be jerking motion that add on wear and tear on to the watch rotor system.

There more important is the gripping of the watch is good secure enough not to drop the watch!

This is a  NOS Swiss made Bergeon No. 5803 watch winder that one Swiss firm trade with me for watches, besides the above feature, it is super quiet, yes, a Swiss AC motor.

If is on sales now to those people who need a real professional watch winder or nothing.

Only HK$4,500

Rolex Submariner ref 116610LV , the "Hulk"

Submariner “Hulk” ref 116610LV
The Rolex Submariner’s robust and functional design swiftly became iconic diving watch. With their subtly redesigned Oyster case, distinctive dial with Maxi luminescent hour markers, graduated rotatable Cerachrom bezel and solid link Oyster bracelet, super accurate movement that makes some “tourbillon” shameful, the latest generation Submariner and Submariner Date are firmly in line with the original model launched in 1953.
The Rolex Submariner Date reference 116610LV, aka "Hulk," is the Rolex Submariner we all know and love but with a green ceramic bezel and green dial. It commands a price premium (SPR HK$68,100) over the more traditional black ceramic bezel and matching black dial “classic” Rolex Submariner 116610LN reference model (SPR HK$63,900).
There are always dissenters over the Hulk, over the years, I love using Hulk though I always hear people, dislikes “Green”, Green is not my colour, Too green! It is a lady’s watch, no one wears green watch, not a classic….Someone says’ Like Kermit 16610LV (50th anniversary) more.
At the time, this person was wearing a Rolex with a vintage Submariner 1680 with a ripe patina dial on NATO strap, so they weren’t exactly hostile to the brand. I believe their reasoning was that in their opinion wearing the green-dialed Rolex Submariner 116610LV came across to him as though someone was trying to stand out or be unique!
As much as I love wearing a black Rolex Submariner black, it doesn’t tell anyone who knows about watches anything about me. A downside of the most popular ones is that they force you to blend in.
Or, if you want to present something more distinctive about yourself but don’t want to be “out there,” consider the color green.
Well, I like blue as much as many of the watch makers, so “Blue” is the standard brand colour, so as blue PP 5711, AP 15400, AP15202, is all boutique item.  Green is Rolex’s iconic colour, it represents Ocean, its represents caring, environmental friendly, peace and tranquility.
To get a Hulk is nothing easy, I sold Hulk likely about ten pieces in the past two years. Starting $65,000, price keeps going up to $69,000, $71,000, $73,000, $74,000, now my next piece is $86,000!
It is not a good news, as price of Hulk from gray dealer is keeping increasing… that is a sign that it will be one day I cannot afford to buy one… So it is time for me to keep one for myself first.
Rolex is gold, and gold is not Rolex.

Thanks for all the reader and fans of HK Watch Fever

This is the 8th years I have been blogging on Watches… as a matter of fact, I should say thank you for those who has been supporting this Blog whoever in the past few years…

I still remember when  I saw the first 100th page views I was so happy and eager to know who he is…

Now it had hit 2.7M page views and had 2,341 comments on the published 2,255 posts, all my post was done by me for last year I off loaded a few tenth posts to my partner in HK Jason… He is busy too so I have to pick up myself in this year.

I started to find I have turned this watch collection hobby into by side line, or now I should say my main line as I am still holding a position in the World No,1 top semiconductor company located an office in Alabang, whereby I am a country manager.. That is why I hold a Philippine Phone number 639989811111.

Over these few years and more precisely started 2014, I have been selling watching to the Philippines fans on my blog, and gradually I am selling more than just Rolex, JLC, AP, PP, Zenith, Paneria...etc…

I am glad that Now I am not just selling, also provide service for evaluation, checks and trading watch from the Philippines. I also buy from you!

People Who have bought from me knows my strategy, customer base instead of Profit base orientated.

So I even lost 2 thousand dollar whereby I committee a price on D-blue. And I made no money on a Batman to one doctor in a Hospital. But it is fine as he loves to buy from me more,, and I sold him a Hulk recently…

Now, I start to feel bad as I will be retiring from this company soon and I may not able to fly over so frequently weekly like before… anyway, I still can fly over to talk, drink, eat and or trade watches with you…say on weekend. Also I have a plan to select a close partner to open a Watch store in Philippines.

Thanks for the who had supported me, trusted me… for those who never seen me but send me money wire HK$180,000… and not just once… This things will not happen for HK people i stead. But I think because you have been watching me over these years,

Thanks for all of your, CEO of Bank, Lawyers, congressman, Mayors, business man, doctors, teachers, hotel GM, young enthusiast, OL, models, watch collectors, watch dealer, IT manager, Advertisers, Special thanks to Alex at Greenbelt 1;  it is nice to know people who is really a watch guru.

Thanks for the support and trust!
