A Swiss businessman and watch collector Cesar De Trey was
travelling t India for business and attended a polo match at a club of British
Army officers. There, D Try encountered a British officer who had just broken the
glass of his watch during a particularly “enthusiastic” polo game.
Why the officer needed to wear his watch while playing polo?
He might not know. But upon hearing of De Trey credentials, the officer
promptly engaged the businessman in conversation and challenged De Trey to
create a Watch that could resist the particular rigors of a typical polo match.
Thus, the idea of the Reverso was born.
Upon returning of Switzerland, Cesar De Try immediately consulted
with Jacques-David LeCoultre, the the nower of Le-Coultre manufacture, for a
timepiece that could somehow he turned front to back so as to be shielded from the
impact of a polo mallet.
