Many of the Rolex Authorized Dealers were gone... In Hong Kong.

Look this is watch catalogue of Rolex of the 70’s there are so many familiar names on it.

Rolex Representatives or so called Authorized dealer in HK. But after 90s many of them has gone eithers Rolex or the shops leave out from the dealership for some business decision.

One worth Noted is that is real old timer Fung Leung Kee which was established in 1947 till now still having close dealership with Rolex, though they have only one shop.

The one David Watch company was close in 90. Kowloon Watch company was once having dealer ship but it was removed out by Rolex in the list.

In the 80s. a lot of jewelry shops joined the Rolex team, Like Chow Seng Seng, Chow Tai Fook, King Fook..

Now there are as many as 16 Rolex AD and 66 Shops as of June 2014.

Those were the days!

There was a case a Hong Kong celebrity went to buy a Rolex Date Just in Rolex AD in Germany, whose watch was adjusted shorter but the sales man took two sections of bracelet links from her. Until she came to me talking about this…

She wrote a letter to Rolex SA Swiss complaining, and then she received a letter from Rolex Service Centre  HK.

The case is Still under investigation, and I hope she can get the returned sections from Rolex.

Yesterday I help Michael (Australia) to buy for his wife 118235 (pink gold Day Date) at Rolex AD, he asked to removed 4 sections of the links, that is an equivalent of HKD$3,500 x4 = 14,200!

Is that tempting? So next time, when you buy Rolex, check what you have and everything should be counted! Dont be shy to ask WHY the section of Link is gone, even a stainless steel Oyster Section is HKD$500! or Next time tell me to go buying watch with you!

There are total 66 Rolex AD (Authorized Shops) in HK, an Estimation of 40,000 Rolex watches in display.

Estimated Dollars value of HKD$240,000,000 assuming average price of HKD$6,000.

Tsim Sha Tsui being the leader in Number of Shop 15, following up with Causeway Bay of 10 and Mong kok of 8 shops.

In terms of Shop No1. And No.2 is Chow Tak Fook and Chow Seng Seng both has 17 Shops.

This is no ordinary LED Display, not that the LED is not stuck on the glasses, they were embedded into the glass with almost transparent connecting wires.

There are roughly three hundred White mid power LEDs with approximately 0.3W each. That is a 90W powder rating and if that is driven by a 5V supply, the current is 18A.

How could a hidden conductor inside a glass to do that? Well, I will take a close look into it...

What I am trying to say that there is a lot of applications for LED on Advertisement. And there will be thousand ways to display the techniology in front of you!

Pros and Cons to buy watches in these area, of course they might have more choice but does not mean they have more rare Rolex like Ref 116520 Daytona, Ref 116610LV Submariner Hulk, Ref 116710LN BLNR GMT Master II Blue. Simply they might also have more VIP that they have to entertain them with these Limited Versions.

If you want to buy Daytona Black in vain, try to buy one more, some shops will let you get their Reserved Daytona black  if you buy one more other. Well, ask you friend who want to buy Rolex, then you can buy together. Sometimes it works.
It will work if you buy the Submariner Emerald in HKIA, they will let you buy also Daytona Black! But I think who will care if he could afford Submariner Emerald!?

Go to some smaller shopping area for leisure shopping, sometimes they have some surprise for you.

Rolex Does not allow any discount more than 5% in every Rolex Shop or their license to represent Rolex will be provoked. There are Rolex insiders to randomly raid Rolex AD see if they give dicsount more than 5%.

If you are not Hong Kong people and you could show them the passport, and possibly return ticket… to let them feel comfortable that this is not Rolex Insider. Go Ask them for more discount!  Friend of mine, an Australian did get a surprise discount of 14% last year in One Shop at Central, that amount of saving is HKD$36,904!

He bought a Submariner ref 116619LB carrying a List price HKD$263,600.

Before you leave HK, try to stop by HKIA Rolex AD, if you are just be there at 1600 Tuesday and Friday. You have a higher chance to buy the limited Ref 116710BLNR and Ref 116520.  These are the two time slot that will receive the new stock! If you can go there on the last day of the month, that is the chance they could give you the one you are looking for with bigger discount, as they need you to help them to complete the quota for the Month!

Due to the high rent, that I think over HK$3,000,000 a month a few tenth of sales executives.

The Rolex AD in HKIA is likely either a big revenue Generators or big loser to the owner Dickson Watch & Jewellery.

Insiders story was told that in the first Day of Opening, they SOLD 6 Submariner Blue Pointer Ref 116610 BLNR! And a few Daytona Stainless steel, Well? Who are the buyer!? As they have to pass by the immigration and fly away the day!?

And I think there is hardly to get more than 5% discount, or even no discount depending on how much time you have to make a happy Rolex Shopping.

They may have a Million dollars Sales revenue, but that isn’t enough  for them for paying the rent and the staff!

When time comes, we will see how they change their sales strategy,

Don’t  forget, there are limitation to make a Rolex buy there. And I think it takes minimum 20 Minutes to buy a Rolex.

Well., I think if the strategy is Right they can sell a lot of Rolex to the rich Buyers.

To compete with downtown Hong Kong retailing and the increasingly high profile fashion offers at other hub airports in South East Asia such as Louis Vuitton in Incheon Airport, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has awarded Rolex and Chanel separate licenses to build spectacular, iconic standalone two-storey luxury boutiques at the airport.

These new ‘mega boutiques’ will be located on either side of Hong Kong International Airport’s Central Departure Hall Atrium, which most departing passengers must pass to reach their flight gates.

This is a new landmark in HK airport and these two shops Rolex and Chanel will be landmarks.

The two double-storey luxury brand shops will both be the same size in area, with 500sq m of retail floor space in total and the sales area on each storey covering 250sq m.

There is an internal staircase going up to the upper level.

The introduction of the two new stores is part of AAHK’s determined effort to ensure that Hong Kong Airport’s retail offer matches the location's reputation as a shopping paradise.

It also believes that the opening of the new shops in the airport next year will provide a sensational new look to HKIA’s departure areas – yes of course, I had been there Today, and I saw a lot of attractive staff there to help you.

There is no doubt that the opening of Louis Vuitton’s first airport shop in the world at Incheon Airport last September raised the bar for Asian airport operators looking to lure Mainland Chinese transit passengers – with that store’s daily turnover reaching an average of round $300,000 a day at one point.

This Rolex Shop opened on 24 Aug. has almost all the Watches you need to see, to consider and to buy!  Today, When I asked they have no GMT master II Ref 116710 BLNR Today. May be next week! Who knows!?

Price wise, for sure there is no more than 5% discount.

Next time make sure you can leave HKIA earlier one hour and spend the time there shopping!

How Much does Rolex spend for Advertisement and Promotion?

More successful firms spend more resources on propaganda, advertisement and Promotion for more sales.  For magazine TIME or NEWSWEEK, you can see there is always the most expensive advertisement space goes to Rolex.
