Where to Buy the Best valued pre-owned Rolex in HK!?

(The Pictures shown here on top is Kuen Kee and the Bottom is Lung Shing)

Where to Buy the Best valued pre-owned Rolex in HK?
This is a question from friends and fans of Rolex to me.
Well, to me, when I buy a pre-owned Rolex I have the following requirement.

1.The goods is original Rolex and Rolex parts
2.The Goods was bought from a Reliable legal source
3.The Goods is having no problem and having Rolex original Quality.
4.Come with Original Warranty certificates and Boxes.
5.The Price must be right and to me… I mean Cheap!
Well, as everyone knows that the first 1,000 Starbucks coffees for the day are made for paying for the rent in HK. As The rental fee in HK is likely Highest in the World. So when you enter the shop in Tsim Sha Tsui hotel shopping arcade to buy a pre-owned Rolex.. likely 10% is going to the pocket of the top-five Landlords of HK, through indirectly the Watch Shop.

So Where Can I buy good value for money Roles in HK!?
Well, My choice is Luen Shing and Kuen Kee in Sham Shui Po…

Why? As Sham Shui Po is HK’s poorest district in terms of People average annual income . The rent is almost lowest in HK, and the rent may be just 20% for that of Tsim Shan Tsui.

And They owe their shop. Meaning that they have intrinsic 20% tendency to be cheaper that other people running the same business.

That is True when you compare their price!
Another point is that they sell almost Rolex only, so you have a lot of choice.

They have been running almost 30 years under the same owner… So they have a good connection with Thailand, Malaysia, China, Singapore and Philippines buyers., In fact Kuen Kee does Whole Sales for Rolex….
On their other hand, their extensive experience to tell how good the Rolex watches are when they buy it.. Also since they owe the pawn shops they can some time get some very rare Rolex and they can dare to buy up!
So, next time when you think of buying pre-owned Rolex go to these shops!

Lung Shing is situated at Cheung Sha Wan Road 169. They open from 1200-1900 only
http://lungshingcentre.com/

Kuen Kee is situated at Ground Floor, 25 Pei ho Street, Sham Shui Po Kowloon.
Tel 27206632, 23864010. Website: http://www.kkwatch.com/ you can exit Sham Shui Po MTR Exit A2, go alone Pei Ho Street, across about 4 block of building, 200 metres away, you will find it. Not too difficult to find for Foreigner. If you are not too sure, go Google Map to take a look first. They Accept VISA… you can ask for some discount…if you are a good sweet talker… well, try to bring home a Good Rolex…
Ps. They display about 400 Rolex watches in the Kuen Kee Shops.

The DeepSEA is selling from HKD$39,000 to HKD$49,000, Submariner is selling HKD$37,000 to HKD$43,000. Explorer is Selling from HKD$29000-36,000.

In Luen Shing I have seen about 80 Rolexes Today. This is purely my personal comment only as I do not mean to say something bad about the shops in Tsim Sha Tsui, however the shop in Tsim Sha Tsui may have more other brands such as VC, AP PP, FM, RD, IWC, Cartier…etc

Hi Mr. HK Snob, i'm an avid reader of your blog, i just want to ask for your opinion. Which one is a better choice/investement? A Rolex president, men's daydate, white gold with papers/box selling price of hkd110,000.00, or a Rolex president, men's daydate, white gold with diamonds on the hours but no papers price at hkd125,000.00. Pls help, i value your opinion very much. thanks and more power to you!

HK Snob said...

Hi Andre,
I assume that they bear the same model and the similar condition and year of production, if you want to use it for yourself, having papers or not is not important at all. And for the box, it is about HKD$500 only. and if in the case of Japan, having a paper will add n the total value HKD$1,000 only.
So seems they are more or less the same in price.
You do not mention the colour and material of the dial which is critical to determine the value of the watch, i assume that is the common grey of white printed dial.
Friend of mine, a dealer showed me a Day date with Onyx black dial, like new condition, asking only HKD$80K, that is a good price, but white good is lesser in the market and has a bit higher in value/price is true.
So you can make a wise choice which one you like an go for it. Make sure the shops are reliable one!

Hi HK Snob,

I am planning to by my first rolex and I am keen on getting a green millguas. I travel regularly to Hong Kong but live in Australia. I want to buy the millguas on my next trip to HK. What are the pros and cons of buying a pre owned rolex (maybe a year or so old)?

If the watch is still within its warranty period, can it still be taken to a rolex AD in Australia for adjustments if required?

Conversely, what is the advantage of buying a new watch?

Also, do you know if a pre owned green millguas is hard to find at the stores in SSP?

HK Snob said...

Dear GPPM,

There is not much point of value if you buy a one year old Milgauss as the price is not too attractive…Unless the price is very attractive! On other hand Rolex price is like Steel, very hard to see “Cheap Rolex” of second Hand, and if that is too cheap, you had better beware!

The used one may come with or without warranty certificate, with certificate price is naturally higher. There is used Milgauss Green Glass, probably selling at HKD$47,000 to 51,000 for a one year old watch with Certificate, this is purely some reference for you only. Comparing with a new one someone may get a price if net HKD$53,700*. What do you prefer!? A Brand new one opening all seal and tape at site in front of you at Rolex AD and something that you may worry a bit after your purchases with less 4,000 dollar cheaper!?

In the case of HK, and if there is no certificate, Rolex will still service your watch if that is a genuine Rolex. If not they just return you at site, as they will check it at time you submit the watch to you… and this is a nice service for checking your Rolex is Real or not… I mean normal Rolex, not something very rare, or the people in Rolex also had not seen that watch at all, and they can not tell if that is a Real one or not unless they open, check and confirm detail through Rolex HQs.

There is no problem to get a Ref 116400 GV Milgauss Green Glass in HK, price is HKD$59,600 with standard 5% discount at Rolex AD., but this is one of the hot cakes in Rolex, it may be better to inform me 1 week in advance when you come to HK, I can check if where is stock for you.

Wish you had a wonder Rolex Time!

PS. what SSP means!?

Remarks *
Mail me and I can try to get this price for you if your are serious about it.

Thank you so much for the prompt reply HK Snob. I think then I will purchase a new watch.

I will be in HK next week and stay there for two weeks. I will also be back again in late February. so I can wait if necessary for the watch to be available, but I would like to by when I travel to HK next week.

Many thanks for your advice.

Hi HKSnob,

I am considering getting either a deepsea or the explorer II black dial for my coming 30th birthday.
To what I know singapore is selling Deepsea listed at SGD13k with 5% discount and Explorer II at about SGD10k with 5% discount. My question here is should i get a brand new one or a pre-owned one which can save me S$2,000 or more. I am kinda confused.

Can you give some advise to me?

Thanks.
Jason

HK Snob said...

Edmond
Those are pre-owned watch!
New is HKD$60,500
Mail me if you are keen of Buying new with discount!
HK Snob

HK Snob said...

Hi Jason

Deepsea Singapore is 13Kx6.2x.95=$76570
HK is $76,400
Explorer II Sinapore is 10Kx6.2x0.95=$58,900
HK is $56,160
If you want to save SGD2,000 you have to buy used one, I think Ref 216570 used with warranty card is about $49,000-52,000
Unless you buy used 16570, that is about $36,000 with paper. $32,000 no paper.

Hi HK Snob,

Thanks for your advice. I am kinda shock to see a used one is almost 50% off a new piece. I always thought getting a rolex is a safe buy and it won't depreciate alot.
Looks like I am wrong?

I really wish to get one that can at least maintain its value or appreciate in long run.

Jason

HK Snob said...

Jason
Don't forget you are comparing Older 16570 and the latest 216570 which has a big impact to the older model, The newer one 216570 has a unique new movement, larger 2 mm in size and some minor facelift feature. that is why the older one as an used watch further drop. but we buy new One we have some discount. so the price gap is not 50% it is about 60%! That is not too bad for a product. if you want a better value Rolex, either try some special limited models
HK Snob

Anonymous said...

Hi Mr. HK Snob,

Thanks for the reply.
So in general most Rolex will depreciate after sometimes?

Comparing the new explorer II and DeepSea. Which would you recommend?
Personally I prefer 44mm and above watches. But I do not want to buy a brand new watch that will depreciate that much.

I've read the other post you have for the selling the deepseas after 10 years. It makes sense and I am wondering it the logic applies to the Explorer II as well?

Thanks.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your saying, I am charged up with more energy to work harder for the contribution.
If you want to wear a 44mm, definitely Deepsea is the choice,
If you want to own a Rolex wiht lower entry price, go for a pre-owned Deepsea.
If you want to compare Explorer II new 216570 and DeepSea by their rate of depreciation, I thinki DeepSea can hold value more as it is less in production , it is more expensive and that is more or less Iconic watch of Rolex!

Hi Andrew,

Can, from my experience, you can get a small discount. say 2-3% on top of the price. Ask for it, it is no harm, if they can gibe you, they will, No harm to ask.
I had some purchase years back at Lung Shing, I get about some 4% on my purchase of an AP! May be AP has a more flexible pricing., but try also on Rolex too!!

Hi Aprish
I only Pay US$4,000 for this watch.
But of course, Condiiton is also a major factor.
$4,350 with Box and paper is not bad. But you should ask about condition, if something like Excellent Plus is OK.
HK of course has more choice and varity, and you should come over to take a look first.

Hi i went to kk and lungshing they said their price is fixed no discount. I guess when they sense that you are a foreign they dont give discount. Both of these shop was not good on talking to customers they sounded kinda rude. Anyways i didnt buy from them i just taken my deal to somewhere else. I ended up buying at kens watch which the seller was very friendly and very accomodating. I was surprised because i thought kk watch and lungshing give the best deals and service but their both not very accommodating to customers....i strongly suggest go to kens watch and kwai yan when buying preowned watch.both give great service and quality preowned watches best of all they give discounts! Just want to share my experience so you guys wont waste your time in going to shops that will pissed you off.

HK Snob said...

Hi there
yes, you might be right.
KK and LS sales does not speak English like other shops and HKers, that is part of HK culture that they want to stop communictaion when they can not speak but they donot know how!?
In their heart they are not rude at all. but in the ears of customers is kinda rude. I also know one taxi driver who work on phone to book customer, one morning when I went to HKIA, someone Pilot of CX asked for taxi, his replied was" No TAXI!" No Taxi" to the Pilot, that is rude!!
KK and LS is renowned, again, they do not know me and I know them only, and I donot have any relationhip in busines or other with them, but their Goods speaks for the quality. as they have years of experienec on doing this, SEA whole seller also buying from them. Any way KY and Kens gives your discount and offer very good service is good news to you. By the way, i buy from Lung Shing too, I steill remeber I bought an AP Royal Osk Quartz with list price HKD$21K and Final Deal was 19.5K of course, I know that is a Quartz., that can have bigger margin and that was why discount was made to me. if Rolex , teh price is Rock hard!

An used one with Paper is about HKD$29,500

Try Lung Shing, Kuen Kee.
I saw two last two weeks but not too sure they have paper. If time allows I will go to see today as I am in HK this week!

As for Brand new one at Rolex AD Ref 114060 HKD$52,700

HK Snob

Thanks for speedy reply HK Snob,

Both prices are good. If buying used I'm keen on box and papers.

Any further discounts on those? I know this is 2013 but is there a discount for cash in the used dealers?

Thanks again!

M

HK Snob said...

Micheal

Price is my rough estimation only as price varies on individual, if they came in low, they may sell a bit lower. Also depends on condition. Box is not an issue, as a Rolex Box ia about HKD$300 only.
All you need is the warranty card.
Always there is room for price negitiation, but if you are not too sure you go for it, don't negotiate with them.

As if they give you discount, they expect you buy it.

HK Chinese Business practice!!

Normally depends on cases, you can ask for less 5% discount..

Seldom you can get more than 5% in Shop Like KK or Lung Shing...

They runs business very differently as in TST, if you had a phone, you can take by WHATSAPP

Hi Ck, I bought a Datejust 16014 SS with a Silver Lien dial which is rare. I got it for HK$17900. But I'm confident that it won't have any problem because i got it from KK. Which is highly recommended by HK Snob.

Many thanks!

HK Snob said...

The best way to sell is direct to the buyer, such as friend, or sellig via eBay. As it would skip the profit margin of dealers.
Or if you are from HK, I can make a free ad for you, but you hav to tell me your bottom price and detail of your watch.

HK Snob

James C said...

Hi HK Snob,

I see. I have posted mine on some local sites like Review33, GeoExpat, etc. And will list on eBay later.

Just that I haven't gained much traction ever since I listed, so just wondering if I'm not doing it properly. As for pricing, I'm actually not very sure what's fair market value. I am asking 46,888 at the moment. I have isn't tried asking one of the very popular preowned dealers on the HK island with multiple shops so far, and the bid wasn't really attractive at all (and I frankly found that attitude a little hard to deal with).

I bought the watch a few years back from Emperor, and it had normal wear and tear. I brought it back for service recently at Rolex Service Center HK and it looks pretty mint afterwards. It even has 2 years of warranty from Rolex now. All box and manuals etc are in place. What's a reasonable price I should expect for this? I am not even sure if I'm offering too low either

Thanks. Your help is much appreciated

HK Snob said...

Hi James C
The new Ref 116400GV list price is $59.600
say normal walk in Discount of less 5%. that is $53,770.
Special VIP Discount could go down to $53,640.

an pre-owned watch could be possible say easy to let go if you make at 80% that is between
$43,000.

That is for direct selling to end user, if you go through dealer and shop, they eats you 20%!

That is $78,375

Pre-owned with Excellent Condition one with paper and box is about HKD$65,000.

Someone can get less 12% paid by cash. Or with card traded at Rolex AD with less 10%

The differnece is smaller with a pre-owned one,

Thanks.

Ref 16013 is Long best seller Watch in 60-70s, I had one exactly you want before with orginal Invoice, orginal certificate. I sold it to collector with only HKD$11,000, but that was 4 years ago.

Now I feel regret as this is hard to be found again as it was a Rose Gold version.

Now For yellow gold, we can easily get it by HKD$18K.

Pink gold one may be HKD$20K-22K with Certificate. That is a refernece number only as you know if the watch is in tip top condition, that would be more expensive!

Hi Mr. HK Snob,

I have been a delighted reader of your site for a long time, and have now come to a place where I am looking at actually purchasing a SeaDweller. Can I bother you with a question or two?

In the original post you mention that DeepSea goes for 39-49k HKD, and later on recommend to Eli that 45k is possible, whereas I usually see (on lungshing and kuenkee) that they go for 60k+ (e.g. here http://lungshingcentre.com/watchdetail.php?ID=2760). Is the main difference that the latter come with box and papers, or am I just looking in the wrong places?

I would be happy to not having papers to an authentic watch (I will buy to wear, not to resell) if excellent condition is around 45k, but I have not been able to find any at the moment.

Any advice please? Keen to hear from you and thank you for an amazing site!!!

Sincerely,

// Fred 李海

HK Snob said...

Hi Fred,
Well, May be my memories are all gone.. I have seen DeepSea at about $50K, of course that was a good price, it came with Watch, no paper no box.
Normal price for a 95% new Deep Sea ref 116660 is about $60K.
Imagine a new DeepSea 116660 is tagged with List price $82,500
If you could get less 14% that is
$70,950.
So if a 95% is approx. $65K
you can refer to this Juen Kee pricing for a Reference

http://www.kkwatch.com/product_list.asp?page_no=1&sc=5&brand_id=RX&feature_id=DIV&bezel_id=BL&available=Y

If you could afford, of course, get a new one as the price is not attarctive at all nowadays, Kuen kee today has only one at $63,000

Sometimes we could find good stuff but it takes you some time... but that is the fun for searching good watch at reasonable price right!?

Are you working in HK, who make such a name for you., Some kind of Expat.!?

Keep in touch...

HK Snob

Anonymous said...

Hi Mr. HK Snob,

Thank you so much for the insightful comments and information - very appreciated. It makes a lot of sense, the DeepSea is a fairly new watch so the variance of price should be less.

I will visit the gentlemen at Kuen Kee and Lung Shing to make a visual search as well. I have been looking at their web-sites since you introduced me to them in the original post. Would you have recommend any other store's website that I should look at in my search for a good price DeepSea?

My Chinese name actually comes from my friends in China (我在北京住了五个年)who referred to me as 厉害的人, which then turned into my name 李海 :) Thank you for asking!

Looking forward to hearing if you'd have any other website recommendations (I broke my leg last month and it is hard to visit many stores face-to-face right now), and will be happy to let you know how my hunt turns out!

Hi Mr. HK Snob!

Thank you for the great comments and clarifications over whatsapp, and I indeed went to purchase the watch from Ken's Watches in CWB. Their service was stellar and I will receive the watch after they have done a pre-collection service and deep-water pressure test (I am a diver) next Friday.

It makes a world of difference to see the pieces "in the metal" and I feel very confident about the purchase :) :) :) I'll send photos when I collect it next week!

Thank you for all the support!!!

// Lididi

PS. the Dynaco is the old SCA 35, but it is sadly in storage in Sweden at the moment. Meiyoubanfa ;)

hi Fred
is Liddi your nicked name!?
Well, that is great! Can you introduce me to get known to Ken people as I have to meet them for more. I went to their Mongkok branch and found that they were moved out!

Well, when you return HK, show me the wacth, send me picture once you have.

I have not been aware they offer water pressure test...! they do have the Rolex Comex test equipment?

Whatsapp me...

Hi HK Snob
I am coming to HK in a couple of weeks and interested in purchasing a Rolex. As I am a newbie with Rolex your help would be appreciated. Could you tell me the new and pre owned price for the following watches. They are model 116203. TT yellow gold and 116610LN SS. I do not need papers and box as I want to wear.
Thanks for your wonderful blog.

Hi Will
116203 BNIB at Rolex AD $67,730
116610LN BNIB at Rolex AD$56,390

Hi Mr HK Snob,
You definitely draw attention with your blog!
I like pre own vintage watches. Either Rolex or AP.
Where would u suggest me to go?
Is kuen kee price, the same in SSP and TST?
Thanks

HK Snob said...

Hi
There is one Kuen Kee in SSP only.
TST is expensive in Rental.
10 Times may before than SSP
So the sale of watch is of Different class and Customer os also different.
KK is meant for more local and TST is for some Celibrity that they enjoy paying extra more for Hi End Watches.
