Price of Submariner

Don't believe or not, the dealer trading price for Submariner black 116610LN is HK$92,000.

The Hulk is even insane, HK$133,000!

What a price under this worldwide unstable economy and amidst of COVID-19!

What is reason for such a simple watch to shoot up to this price?

Stop production?

Rolex shipment getting slim?

or more newer collector or users are entering into hype of Rolex sport watch?

I am thinking the big dealer is stocking up Hulk as they speculate the model will soon be discontinued.

So this is the last bet before September that there is some news of new Rolex model roll out from factory?

Just called the Rolex AD, one manager told me Hulk has been stopped to produce, that they have not seen one more than three weeks

Rolex : Stop Charging Premium for Daytona Ref 116500LN

Interesting Article about Rolex Singapore stops their main distributors to sell more than the list price.

But I don't think that Hour Glass, Sincere or whoever will be able to make a public open sales at MSRP SGD$18,000 (HK$98,640).

In HK, the current price of Daytona Ref 116500LN White is HK$131,000 lowest and Black is HK$124,800 (lowest) at gray dealer hands. Don't think you can get one at Rolex AD with List price HK$90,500.

I don't think Rolex Can call for a Fair price in sales in the open market where the demand and supply is still the  Golden Rule.

If Rolex wants to control the price of Daytona down to MSRP price , well make more production and ship more as they do for Date just...

If not, Price of Daytona is still as hard as Diamond!

Europe has increased price on Rolex by 5% in last week

All European Watch has been confirmed increased by 5%
partly due to influence of exchange rate.

Well, see what the next impact would be. As all the gray dealer has put all watches stock on hold  as they will enjoy additional profit “ 5%” immediately…

Unless otherwise that good honest dealer will honour the promised OLD price to sell.

This is a worldwide economy change after the technically “depression” from the China, since 2014.

As there are so much supply from Europe but on the other hand the China and Hong Kong Rolex demand has  diminished by 50%...

European Manufacture on movement has slowed down by 50% already… see how big the influence on the Asian economy.

Rolex has to protect their brand name and profit, so price adjustment is needed… We need to watch the next step on Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong… Well, let see 1 Feb if there is price adjust in these area.

Hong Kong had increased 4 times on price in 2011, then 4 years no price adjustment till 2014 August on a few hot items such as GMT, Submariner, Daytona, Deep sea, Milgauss and Explorer.. then there is over 17 month no price adjustment…. I cannot forecast anymore as that is not predicable…

If this situation continues… that may help the HK Rolex AD to make a better sales.

Because if they can maintain an old price, their price gap with Gray dealer is narrow down by 5%.

Let’s wait till 1 Feb and see…

What is the best Model that could surpass all other Rolexes in 15 years as an investment item?

A Rolex catalogue and Price Book Dated 1 July 1999

What is the best Rolex that could surpass all others in 15 years?

I have found a Rolex HK Price Book dated 1 July 1999, while I compare the major model with the current price book as of Today, I found that GMT Master II seems to be the most promising watch if you are taking it as an investment.

Here is the data:-
From left to Right are….
Item, 1999 Rolex Model , Description, 1999 MRSP --- 2015 Rolex Model, 2015 MSRP , appreciation factor.
1.       M14000, Air King $14,900   --- M116000. $40,000, 2.68X
2.       M14060, Submariner Steel no date $18,450 --- M114060 $58,000, 3.14X
3.       M16233 Date Just TT, $45,050 --- M116233, $ 78,500, 1.74X
4.       M16518 Daytona 18KY YG, $102,070  --- M116518, $183,600, 1.8X
5.       M16523 Daytona 18KT TT, $57,170 --- M116523, $124,100, 2.17X
6.       M16570, Explorer II steel, #22,030 ---M216570, $60,500, 2.75X
7.       M16613 Submariner 18KT TT, $39,300 --- M116613LN $94,700, 2.4X
8.       M16628 Yacht master 1k KT YG, $132,370 --- M116688, $301,900, 2.28X
9.       M16700 GMT Master Steel, $22,030 --- M116710LN $63,200, 2.9X
10.   M16713 GMT Master TT $38,000 ---M116713LN, $91,500, 2.49X
11.   M18238 Day Date 18KY YG, $111,310 ---M118238, $209,300, 1.88X
12.   M18239 Day Date 18KY WG, $119,020 ---M118239, S64,500, 2.22X

Descending order in price Appreciation over the last 16 years:-
No.1  Submariner M114060 --- 3.14X
No. 2 GMT Master II M116710LN --- 2.9X
No. 3 Daytona Steel M16570, $60,500, 2.75X

The price of Ref 116520 Black in 1999 was $33,600 Then the appreciation factor is 90,000/33,600 = 2.68X which becomes the No. 4 in the list.
So if you want to buy Rolex, what you should consider!?
I think I will take GMT Master II Ref 116710BLNR, Submariner Hulk Ref 116610LV and  Deep Sea D Blue Ref 116660, Daytona steel black or white!

Are these the Three Musketeers and that would bring you additional financial support when you retired!?

Let's wait another 15 years to tell!!

Recent Price War of Watches in Hong Kong

After Japan Rolex prices soared up 4% to 10% January, there is Rumour that Germany will increase price in Feburay.
Parallel watch importers are flying to Germany to snap all popular models back HK in the past two weeks.

After 15 Jan., most of the Hot items are not able to be found in Rolex AD and hands of the parallet watch dealer, likely this is purely business decision to keep the Watches for the Rolex official Price Adjustment in Febuary. Who does not want higher profit waiting for two weeks!?

So if you want to buy Rolex sport model you might have to look for a few more shops.

That is a bit surprise that Panerai had reduced price of ALL their model by 5% last week.

That is a Marketing decision, I think Panerai shouldn't reduce price as people dislike price reduction of luxuary watches.

In January, AP has already increase watch price by HKD$6,000 for all steel model such as 15400ST.

Patek Philippe had no changes of price as of this moment, may be after Chinese new years?

Lastest news that report by good freind who is now in Germany, Rolex has increased 7% on Rolex in Germany stariting 1 Feb 2015.

And It might be wise if you want to buy your favourite watch, got to be make a decision and got to be fast.

Will the best Rolex Buy be in Moscow?

Saint Petersburg tourist AD at HKIA

Maybe you could get very good price for your dream "Rolex" in Moscow since the Rubles has dropped by 45% in this year compare to US$.

Russian economic trends
When news reports noted the Japanese Yen depreciated more than 17%, the value of the Russian Ruble had plummeted more than 55%. Sanctions imposed by U.S. and Europe in response to Russia’s decision to send troops to Ukraine and plunging global oil prices, were the main reasons behind the Ruble’s depreciation. For a country highly reliant on imports, this will also lead to rising import costs, leading to Russia’s high luminaire costs.

So if this is the right time to go Shopping at Rolex AD at Moscow and Or, Saint Petersburg!?

Is there anybody there now can give me a update on the Rolex Watch they have, and their prices!??

This may be the coming hot spot after Japan to buy Rolex!

All Major Rolex Watch Model List Price, and Discount at Rolex Authorized Dealer (AD) Hong Kong Sep 2014

Price Adjustment in the past 4 years
Rolex has adjusted the price 4 times in 2011, and 5 times for Tudor. It has been no price adjustment for Rolex and Tudor since Nov 2011! However 18 Aug 2014 there is a major price adjustment on only some of the hot models

Rolex currently produces around a dozen different Oyster Perpetual models. Rolex also has their dress line, Orchid 50-60 and later Cellini. They are not the major model peoples are looking for.

Ladies Choice
For ladies they make the  26mm Date & Datejust, and 29mm Lady Datejust PearlMaster. In mid-size, you can get the 31mm Datejust or 34mm Oyster Perpetual Date

Men’s choiceLastly there are the gents: 34mm Date & Air-King; 36mm Datejust, Explorer & President; and the 40mm Daytona, Explorer II, GMT-Master-II, 44mm DeepSea, the New 2014 SeaDweller 4000, Submariner, and latest 44mm Stainless Steel Yacht-Master II.
The new one like Explorer II, Sky-Dweller is made of a larger size of 42mm. The Date Just II and Day Date II is not seen to be well accepted by most of the Asian customers, still the 36mm Size is the main stream.

Some models like the gents Datejust currently have about model numbers XXXXXX... The numbers help differentiate the different metals on case and types of bezels used. Dial colors are not included, so that leaves one with dozens of new Datejust choices...

Air-King
The Air-King could be considered the "Basic" model from Rolex. It is 34mm in diameter and comes with an Oyster bracelet by default. The Air-King does not have a Date. In the 1970s, the Air-King was offered with a date and in gold & steel combinations which was rare! Those two variations likely ceased production since they are redundant next to the Date and Oyster Perpetual models.

Current models retail for Air King Ref 114200 $38,500 with the smooth bezel fitted, oyster bracelet.

Ladies Date/Datejust
These two models use the same 26mm case mold and offer the exact same functionality. Rolex discontinued the ladies Date, there was so much overlap in the models that it seemed long overdue.

Lady Oyster Perpetual (No Date)
Ref 176200 Oyster perpetual Lady 26mm stainless steel, No Date, Smooth Stainless steel bezel with Oyster Strap $49,000

Lady Date Just
Ref 179160 Oyster perpetual Lady Date Just, 26mm stainless steel, with Date, smooth bezel with Oyster Strap $45,800

Ref 179174 Oyster perpetual Lady Date Just, 26mm stainless steel, with Date, MOP, White gold Fluted Bezel with Oyster Strap $63,700

Ref 179174 Oyster perpetual Lady Date Just, 26mm stainless steel, with Date, White gold Fluted Bezel, Diamond Dial with Jubilee Strap $67,800

Ref 179174 Oyster perpetual Lady Date Just, 26mm stainless steel, with Date, diamond MOP dial, White gold Fluted Bezel with Jubilee Strap $84,100

Ref 178271 Oyster Perpetual Lady Date Just, 31mm Mid Size Two Tone Rose Gold, With Rose gold Fluted Bezel, MOP with Diamond with Jubilee Strap $107,800

Oyster Perpetual
Oyster Date: The Rolex Date is 34mm like the Air-King, but it obviously includes a date function. Its production began in the late 1950s, around the time the steel Datejust was introduced.
Ref 115200 stainless steel, 34mm Smooth stainless steel Bezel date Oyster Strap $47,500
Ref 115234 Stainless steel, 34mm White Gold Fluted Bezel Date Oyster Strap 5 Diamond dial $62,100

Datejust
The Datejust is the best selling Rolex model in the market, 60% of Rolex model is Datejust and has been for decades. It was first introduced in 1945. The gents model is 36mm in diameter and typically came on a Jubilee bracelet. Rolex seems to have changed their tradition on this and is sending more Datejust models out the door with the Oyster band. Models with smooth bezels are available, but less common. Most have the fluted bezel, which is 18k white gold on the steel model. Most of the Chinese big spenders buy Two Tone Rolex Date Just 36mm with Diamond Dial as the most frequent buy.

The Datejust was only available in gold until 1957 (conveniently a year after the release of the Day-Date which still has never seen a steel model). The steel Datejust was introduced and became an instant success. Rolex soon saw the steel variations selling much quicker than their gold models. Rolex countered this in 1962 when they introduced the gold and steel version…
Ref 116200 Date Just stainless steel watch, 36mm, Smooth Stainless steel smooth Bezel with Oyster Strap $49,000

Ref 116234 Date Just stainless steel watch, 36mm, White Gold Fluted Bezel with Oyster Strap $58,800

Ref 116234 Date Just stainless steel watch, 36mm, White Gold Fluted Bezel Smooth with Diamond Dial with Jubilee Strap $72,700

Milgauss
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss was introduced in 1956 with model number 6451. The Milgauss was designed as an antimagnetic watch specifically for those who worked in power plants, medical facilities and research labs where electromagnetic fields can cause havoc with the timing of a watch. The current model Milgauss is equipped with a magnetic alloy (Parachrom-Blu) hairspring and movement encased by a Faraday cage. The name Milgauss is derived from the Latin mille, which means one-thousand, and gauss, the unit of a magnetic field. l is so named because it can withstand a magnetic flux density of 1,000 gauss.

In 2007, Rolex brought the Milgauss back after nearly two decades as the model number Ref 116400. There are currently three versions: white dial or black dial with a standard colorless sapphire crystal, and the GV (Glace Verte) or "Anniversary" model, with black dial of a slightly different design and a green-tinted sapphire crystal. The GV is the only Rolex produced with a tinted crystal. Although initially rumored to be a limited edition, the GV version is still produced nearly 3 years later after 2010.

Due to its internal Faraday cage, the Milgauss is thicker than the Submariner, but the same width and weighs 157 grams. The Milgauss is only available in 904L polished stainless steel, an alloy that is extremely resistant to scratches and corrosion. Aside from its resistance to magnetic fields, the Milgauss' most unusual feature is its orange lightning-bolt second hand, a unique feature in the Rolex lineup that was originally introduced with the 6541 Milgauss model.

Ref 116400 Milgauss White Dial or Black dial $55,500 was Increased to $57,500 (Aug 2014)

Ref 116400 GV Milgauss Green Glass grey black dial $59,600 was increased to $61,600 (Aug 2014)
Ref 116400 GV Milgauss Green Glass Blue dial $61,600 (new introduction end Aug 2014)

Explorer I
It was introduced in 1954, and has had one look through-out its life; a black dial with Arabic numbers at 3', 6' and 9', no date, smooth bezel, Oyster bracelet, and a stainless steel 36mm case. Except for the updates that all Rolex watches have received, it remained essentially the same watch.
Explorer I Ref 214270   39mm stainless steel with Oyster Strap $48,200

Explorer II
This model was introduced in the early 70's and was never widely distributed or popular until 1991. The original model was produced until the current model was released in 1985. The Explorer II uses the same movement as the GMT-II models and makes use of a secondary 24-hour hand that rotates once every day. The engraved steel bezel is stationary and was originally designed for speleologists (cave explorers) who can have a hard time determining if it is am or pm.

Explorer II Ref 216570 was launched in Nov 2011, new caliber of high accuracy, 42mm stainless steel, it come with Black with Orange Floating Pointing $60,500, White Dial same price.

Submariner
The Submariner was introduced by Rolex in 1954. The watch comes only on an Oyster bracelet and has a 40mm case. The steel model is only available with a black dial, and is one of the most recognizable Rolexes. Anniversary editions with green bezels can occasionally be found.

The Submariner has the common single direction rotating diving bezel with minute markers for the first 15 minutes. The original models until 1958 are often considered "James Bond" models and have some easily recognizable difference. Primarily, they had a smaller crown, no crown guard, and the bezel only had minute markers every 5 minutes. In the late 70s the model 16800 was introduced. It sported the new sapphire crystal and quick-set function. In 1989, the 16610 was introduced with an improved movement and a more secure bezel, that is the most advanced and yet beautiful Submariner so far claimed by most of Submariner Collectors.

In 2010, the 116610 was introduced with a ceramic (Cerachrom) bezel and improved “Glidelock” buckle.

Ref 114060 Submariner Black dial, no Date 40mm, stainless steel watch with matching Oyster Strap $58,000

Ref 116610LN Submariner black Dial, 40mm, stainless steel watch with matching Oyster Strap $62,100

Ref 16610LV Submariner Green bezel Black Dial, 50th Anniversary model, discontinued in 2010.
Someone still wants to find it, no way from Rolex, go to the preowned Market.

Ref 116610LV Submariner green dial and green Bezel, 40mm, stainless steel watch with matching Oyster Strap $66,100 (Due to its limited supply, there is no discount for this model).
It was increased to $68,100 in Aug 2014.

Ref 116613LN Submariner Two Tone with Yellow gold and Stainless steel, 40mm Black Dial, $94,700

Ref 116619LB Submariner Solid White gold, 40 mm with Blue Dial and Blue Bezel with matching gold strap $263,600

DeepSea
Sea Dweller: The Sea Dweller was introduced in 1971 and discontinued in 2008. It is virtually the same watch as the Submariner. The only real differences are the thicker and heavier steel case, thicker crystal with no cyclops eye, and the helium escape valve useful only to deep divers. The original model was rated for 2000 feet and called the "Rolex Submariner 2000 Sea Dweller". It lost the "Submariner 2000" part of the title in 1973. The previous issue, model 16600, is rated to 4000 feet and is sold only in steel. The DEEPSEA model offers a greater depth rating (to 12,800 feet) along with a thicker, larger case and an improved "Glidelock" buckle.
The DEEPSEA, model 116660, retail was for HKD$82,500, increased to $88,000 in Aug 2014.

SeaDweller 4000 2014
Rolex release the new 2014 SeaDweller 4000 under model No. Ref 116600 list price $78,800 in Aug 2014.

GMT-Master II
The 1950s were an exciting decade for Rolex and included the introduction of the classic GMT- Master. It was one of the first watches to utilize a second hour hand to indicate a second time zone. With the simple rotating 24 hour bezel, one could fairly easily tell the time in any time zone. The late 70s saw the introduction of the GMT-Master II which was basically the same, except now the user could easily adjust the 2nd hour hand with the crown in position 2. The steel models are only offered with black dials. The bezels are available in all black, red/ black, or red / blue. GMT's typically come with a Jubilee bracelet installed.

The original GMT-Master (16700) was phased out in the late 90s. The latest serial number Bernard's had for the 16700 was a U#, putting its birthday around 1997. With the flood of new models with a second time zone function from other manufactures, retiring it was a smart move, as most consumers will want to adjust the 2nd hour hand.

The GMT-Master II (16710) was discontinued in 2008 and replaced with the GMT-Master II (116710) The primary difference besides the 3186 caliber movement with Parachrom Bleu hairspring is the ceramic (Cerachrom) bezel. Some late production 16710s have been discovered with the 3186 movement.

The GMT-Master II with green hand Ref 116710LN retails for $61,200 in steel. This model was launched in Nov 2011.  Price was Increased in Aug 2014 to $63,200

Ref 116713LN GMT-master II Two tone, stainless steel and Yellow gold, $91,500

Yacht-Master II
In 2007, Rolex‘s launched the revolutionary regatta chronograph. It is now available in 904L steel for the first time, fitted with a Cerachrom bezel insert in blue ceramic. On the inside of the huge 44mm Oyster case, the Yacht-Master II features an exclusive function developed by Rolex – a countdown mechanism which can be programmed from 1 to 10 minutes and incorporates a mechanical memory, allowing it to be reset to the same countdown duration. Once launched, it can also be synchronized on the fly, enabling it to be adjusted to match the official regatta countdown. The Yacht-Master II is equipped with calibre 4161, a self-winding mechanical regatta chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex.

Ref 116680 stainless Steel 44mm, with a solid platinum bezel and was just released in June 2013. $145,300.

Daytona Cosmograph
The story of the Rolex Cosmograph could be called the most chaotic of all the Rolex Oyster models. Rolex is keen on creating a winning product. The watch never really got off the ground until 1986 when the market for them exploded and the watches would often sell for double the retail price in Italy. The "Paul Newman" models manufactured around 1967 were and still are the most desirable of the Daytona models fetching prices over HKD$400,000. It was sold at about $29,000 in 1989.
In 2000 came the newly developed Rolex caliber 4130 with a 72 hour power reserve replaced the Valjoux workhorse movement with the Zenith El Premiro movement. During the 1990s, the Daytona was the only Rolex model not using a Rolex movement

The stainless steel Daytona Ref116520 retails at $87,500 was increased to $90,000.
By Right the price of Black and white should be same , however due to the marketing plot of Rolex to supply less on black, the marketing price of Rolex Black is higher than the white at Rolex AD  if they have stock.
Practical price offer from Rolex AD for Black is $98,000 and White $90,000

Steel and Gold models retail for $113,000 and all 18K yellow gold for $265,000. Steel Daytona's have consistently sold for more than retail since the 1980s. The two-tone and gold models do not sell for over retail, unlike their steel counterparts.

Ref 116505 Daytona 40mm, Rose Gold $269,300

Ref 116515LN Daytona 40mm in Solid Rose gold and Ivory Dial on leather strap, $214,600

Ref 116523 Daytona Two Tone, 40mm $124,100
Ref 116523 Daytona Two Tone with diamond dial , 40 mm $138,000
Ref 116528 Daytona 40mm, solid yellow gold $248,100
Ref 116528 Daytona 40mm, solid yellow gold with diamond dial $262,000

Day Date
Day Date (DD) The FlagShip of Rolex, I have been talking a lot about this model and I think many more people started crushed on this model, and a lot of HK Rolex collectors are looking for Colourful Vintage Day Date, especially Model Ref 1803 and Ref 18038, which has been introduced to the world as a Classic. As of this moment in time, their price is still low. However as for new watch, so far, there is never a single request on purchase nor price of Day Date, as Firstly I think they are not cheap, and second, those who can buy would not care too much if that is less 5%, less 10% or less 14%.

Geneva Bucherer Watch Price, cheaper than Hong Kong!?

Picture was taken by HK Watch Fever Special agent Ken in 30 July 2014

The price of Rolex in Switzerland is More Expensive than that in Hong Kong.
This is the Bucherer In Geneva
Unit is Swiss France CHF, I am using Ex-Rate 8.55 for HK Dollars

These are prices in Bucherer:
Explorer II M216570 CHF7,700  ( HKD $65,635)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$60,500*

Submariner Stainless steel no date M114060 CHF7,100 (equivalent HKD$60,705)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$58,000*

Submariner Date Two Tone M116613LB CHF12,800 (equivalent HKD$109,400)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$94,700*

Submariner Stainless Steel Black M116610LN CHF8,100 (equivalent HKD$69,255)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$62,100*

Milgauss Green glass grey dial M116400GV CHF7,800  (equivalent HKD$66,690)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$59,600*

Milgauss Blue dial (2014 New) M16400GV Blue Dial CHF7,300 (equivalent HKD$62,415)
HK Rolex AD List Price $59,600  NO Discount

GMT master II TT M116713LN CHF12,400  (equivalent HKD$106,020)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$91,500*

GMT Master Blue Black M116710 BLNR  CHF8,500 (equivalent HKD$72,675)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$65,300 (No Discount to less 5% Discount depending on which AD)

SeaDweller 4000 M116600 CHF9,900 (equivalent HKD$84,645)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$78,800  (less 5%)

DeepSea 116660 CHF11,500 (equivalent HKD$89,325)
HK Rolex AD List Price HK$82,500  (less 5%)*

Discount at Rolex AD like Geneva Bucherer is 5% with cash and 3% with VISA card!

There is 8% tax , but could be waived if you are foreigner. unless you get big or the price of this is more expensive than that in Hong Kong.

This is a Case of my colleague who went to buy in another Rolex AD on Geneva
Daytona 116520 White final Price HKD$92,000
GMT Master 116710BLNR how much? HKD$68,000
Date Just 177200-70160 HKD$38,000
As They charge 2% on card, plus 2% Ex-rate, that is 4% more.
So I confirm the price of the watch bought in Switzerland is more expensive than in Hong Kong.

Remarks * We gets additional 5% (10%) discount in Rolex AD.
